Interesting representation of what is being grown and made in the local community. Come grab a fresh cup of coffee, pastry and walk the 20 or so stalls. In September I got some wonderful fresh beets, celeriac, and leeks for dinner.
All kinds of handcrafted gifts to bring home with me; jellies, pottery, fairies crafted out of wood, delicate tree fungus earrings... a real hometown experience.
My husband & I browsed through here, and found nothing that we would buy. As a matter -of-fact, I commented how weird everyone seemed, like hippies left over from the 70's. There was a lot of strange art work and crafts, that I couldn't imagine buying. For example- earrings made out of wine corks... they looked like something made by a Girl Scout !!! There was also a table with nothing but a memorial to someone who had died. (?) Another table had a girl was giving out samples of cake, but had no cake for sale (the cake was very, very good & I would have probably purchased some as gifts). Very strange, wouldn't go back there- I think most of the vendors were smoked up !!!!!
Great veggies and fruits in season. Much is organic. Also locally raised meats. Friendly and laid back. Some local crafts offerings. Typically a local music person. Located downtown across from Floyd Country Store.
Our first trip to Floyd and we were very impressed with the downtown farmer's market. It is unususal to see a structure of this caliber especially with vendors in late October! It is located across from the General Store that has live music. It is next to indoor galleries and shops and what appear to be condos. A delightful mixed use area that is inspiring to all folks from a small town! Floyd is a community that has clearly invested in itself and is reinventing the image and focus it is trying to project as a artisan friendly community. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will have to go back soon!
