I enjoy going to casinos, and Odawa in Petoskey is no exception. The only drawback is the smoke - perhaps more folks in that area smoke, or maybe the air filtration system at the casino is lacking, but I usually walk out of there smelling like I have smoked an entire carton of cigarettes. The casino overall is clean and the games are the usual fare. I'll be back, but wish there was some way to avoid the smoke.
Every time we are in the area we spend a little time at the Odawa Casino. The Sage restaurant is lovely. Music from the grand piano plays during dinner. We love the round table near the wine tower.
Stayed at the Odawa hotel and visited the casino twice during the weekend. Casino is nicely laid out with a variety of older and newer games, including Clue, Beetlejuice, Willie Wonka (original) and Batman. Payouts were typical of an isolated casino - isolated! Workers very friendly - local band playing Friday and Saturday.Ate at buffet Saturday night which is biggest disappointment for a place of this size. Positives were cut steak, pizza and decent salad bar. Dessert area was very poor with many comments from patrons. When asked about getting ice cream bowls, the server stated they were being washed. Also were out of rolls. Many desserts, like pies, appear store bought.Summary - fun casino - but much better food opportunities, such as Mitchell Street Pub, Noggin Room and Papa Lou's in town.
The casino is very small. It does have a couple of restaurants and I believe 2 small gift shops. Sage restaurant was amazing though! We ate there 3 times and they NEVER disappointed! Loved it!!!
This is my favorite casino in Michigan. It has , by far, the best buffet of any casino I have been in. If I lived in Petosky and didn't gamble, I would still go to Odawa just for the buffet. We try to get up there several times a year.
This place is absolutely horrendous. This was not only the worst experience I've had at a casino, but the worst experience I've ever had at any place of business in my life. For starters, the place is small, stinky, and tacky. The staff we immediately met were rude and disinterested. Regardless, we stuck around for a few hours since we were staying in town and it was something to do. Well, everything was ok to start. We were up a bit of money, and having a few beers. As we were getting ready to leave the facility, we decided to stop at the bar for one last drink.Well, that's when everything went from mediocre to horrible. My boyfriend and I sat down at the bar to order our last drink before heading back to the hotel. We were ignored, which was nothing new. The staff had been ignoring us regularly since we walked in around 9pm after dinner in downtown Petoskey. My boyfriend tried to flag someone down, and ended up getting the attention of a busboy. He said he'd get a bartender. Well, I don't know if bringing attention to the poor service deeply offended the bartender. She became extremely rude and confrontational and began yelling about how my boyfriend didn't need any drinks, he needed a water. We were a bit in shock because there hadn't been any sort of outrageous or drunk behavior from him.He asked why she felt the need to cut him off, and she repeated herself and got another male bartender to join in on the harassment. Must've been a slow night, and they just wanted to stir something up. My boyfriend said fine, let's go and went to hand me my drink which was still full. The bartender began making a scene, screaming that he was so drunk he was trying to steal my drink from me and drink it. At this point, I started to get irritated because it was uncalled for and I said that she was incorrect in her assumption and that she could keep her opinions to herself. My boyfriend just said fine, and put the beer back on the bar and said let's go. We both were already extremely uncomfortable and felt like we were being targeted for no reason.Out of nowhere, several members of the staff and two tribal officers came from either side of the round center bar. The manager was just as confrontational and obnoxious as the bartender. We basically said we didn't know why they were acting that way, or what's going on but we wanted to leave. The whole time they're running around like crazy screaming, telling us to leave. My boyfriend said, we're trying to but you've got us cornered in this bar. Finally the officer agreed to show us to the door (which we were requesting the whole time). As he walked us down the steps, flanked on both sides by staff members (drawing the attention of the entire casino like they were trying to put on a show), he decided he wanted to take physical control of my boyfriend. He shoved past me and bumped into me hard and grabbed my boyfriend by the arm. As a reaction, my boyfriend pulled his arm away. The officer began screaming don't resist arrest (he wasn't) and yelled for the staff to get the security tapes! He shoved my boyfriend directly into one of the managers and slammed him against the wall of the bar. This caused a huge scene in front of the whole facility, which was beyond humiliating. Also, let's just say no one got the security tapes because there was nothing incriminating (for us at least) on them. They walked him out in handcuffs as I'm trailing behind just staring in disbelief. It was like an alternate universe where you could be abused and harassed and were powerless to even leave. They ended up carting him off to the county jail, listing a number of outrageous offenses they were claiming he had committed. The officer, who seemed to be suffering from some sort of Napoleon complex, used scare tactics to intimidate me as they questioned me claiming I didn't know what assault was when I pointed out that they couldn't charge him for assault when he didn't touch anyone. Well, the terrible male manager (I wish I knew his name so I could contact him and tell him how shameful his behavior was) demanded that they press charges for assault. Of course the charges didn't stick because they were completely fabricated. He ended up thrown in jail for a night, our vacation was ruined and they ultimately charged him for misdemeanor trespassing, and now we're stuck going back to Petoskey so he can appear in court. I still am in awe as to how a business could charge someone who was desperately trying to leave, after spending money for hours, with misdemeanor trespassing. Does that sound right? The way we were treated that evening was not only disappointing, but I found it deeply disturbing to see the tribal officers abuse their power. I've never felt victimized like that in my life. The Odawa Casino should be ashamed of itself. The worst part is, I feel like we were harassed in a way that was unlawful, and since it was a Native American casino on Odawa land we have no legal remedies. If I had been treated like this in any other place of business, I would without doubt file a civil lawsuit. However, I feel like they harass and abuse patrons because they know that there's nothing anyone can do about it since it's their rules to implement and abuse. That's why I felt the need to share this story, and hopefully get at least one person to reconsider their decision to support this casino financially. Please, please, for the sake of your personal rights and safety avoid this casino at all costs!
This is your typical Indian Casino ... stopped here twice during our stay in Petoskey. The first night it was very skinky with smoke odors. The second night was a little better. Not a casino that pays out ... took our money very fast. Don't think we'll go back.
Go here for a good time bring your friends family who ever u want bring money to drink and play tables or slots.hope u all win

Having visited Odawa Casino in the past for no more than 2 -3 hours per visit and having had a good time, we decided to extend our visit. Not going to do that again. The vast majority of games are old, boring slots that don't pay. Or at least didn't pay out for the combined 10 hours we were there. Does include 2 free pop/coffee stations. Beer prices are outrageous! $2.75 for a domestic draft beer. Points are slow to add up. It was clean & wait staff were more or less friendly and helpful. It was okay, but there are other much more better casinos in Northern Michigan to blow our money at.
My girlfriend and I needed to get away, if only for a night, and took a flyer on Odawa Resort and Casino. The price was right ($99.00/night) and along with some coupons for food credit and free-play in the casino I found this to be quite a nice deal. Our visit did start with disappointment however, as we arrived to discover the hotel and casino are not connected. In fact, they aren't even within walking distance of each other. For usthis was a small matter as to thegambling aspect of our visit but somewhat of a problem in that all the dining options are located in the casino rather than the hotel. We were pleased with our room and the hotel. Everything was clean, comfortable and quiet. The casino was nice but catered mostly to slots and blackjack players with only a few other table games available. This may be problematic on a busier weekend. The minimum stakes were low and friendly and the dealers and pit bosses were quite nice.We ate at the buffet and were very impressed, especially at $9.99 per person (regularly $19.99), with our players discount. We will definitely visit again.
Hi Bob,Thank you very much for taking the time to provide a review on Waas-no-de Buffet. We sincerely appreciate the wonderful feedback and we will be sure to share it with our Food & Beverage team!
Nice little casino. Good comps and very friendly staff. Had a verity of slots that I have never played before plus the goodies like Wheel of Fortune.
Well kept casino with a good buffet. While we managed to win a little, the slot play was enjoyable because they gave us good play.
