So close to the center of activity, this area is such a pleasure to hike, whether you're young or old, want to take an hour or 20 minutes, don't miss this beautiful walk along the Bear River. You can do a loop starting on either side and cross over for your return when you feel like it!
We have been going to Petoskey for many years, never realized the recreation area was there. We learned if through Trip Advisor. The area is very close to town an Lake Michigan. Walking by the river was very relaxing hearing the sound of water going over the stones in the river. The path is easy to walk since it is paved. For those that are a little more adventurous, you can walk on a dirt path directly next to the river. We walked for about two miles along the river. There hardly any people on the path. We were there during the week.
Spent a few hours on the beach and in the park.No charge just to visitCamping available with electric, showers, and sewer hood ups.Hiking trails and bike paths go through the park
A peaceful walk up the river is what every visitor needs. A trail on one side and a paved walk on the other. Nice places to sit and listen to the water. Beautiful and well done.
First off I'm biased I live by it and walk my dog down there nightly. Great kayaking now that they've dredged the river. I believe it can get to be a class 4 rapids. Beautiful wildflowers. Go see it but please if you ride a bike stick to the paved areas. That picture next to my name is my dog with Meyers Falls in the background there.
The City of Petoskey did an awesome job with rejuvenating the Bear River Area. This is a marvelous and scenic trail that loops around. It is an easy walk that is full of many photo ops along the way. It is a dog-friendly area also!! Just remember to "scoop the poop" and dispose of it properly in the cans provided along the way. It is rarely crowded in the fall and winter. In the winter-it is a beautiful hike along the river. Calm and peaceful. Don't forget to grab a cup of coffee at Roast and Toast before you start!!
A beautiful paved path for bikers and hikers along the Bear River. A not to miss attraction in Petoskey!
