We went here yesterday, but did not realize they would be closed during the lunch time. We had to wait 30 minutes for them to reopen. Around the complex in the back are lovely tables and chairs in a peaceful setting making a wait a relaxed experience. At 2:30, when they were to reopen the door was locked still and we almost left. Then I caught sight of the woman entering the back door. It was worth the wait. The collection here ranges from ceramic to wood and other materials in between. If we were living here, I would be in financial trouble. There were dozens of items I would have swept off of the shelves and walls in one swoop of the charge card. The sad part is that with multiple flights to get home and the ever tedious luggage restrictions on the airlines that seem to change daily, we did not purchase anything here...yet. We still have 6 weeks in Cuenca, so there is still a chance. I really suggest a trip to this store whether or not you can buy. The pieces are like an art gallery and well worthy of the time.
Chordeleg is well known for its jewelry industry, especially gold and silver filigree jewelry, but in this nice town is a great gallery place called Huellas en la Tierra, which is a family owned business for many years. The Owner is named Sara Orellana and she is one of those kind of humble artist that just to see her work you can feel how much love she puts in her art.
Today, I attended a Bazaar Gourmet in Cumbaya to get my most pleasant surprise to find the exhibition of Artes de la Tierra represented by Mr. Juan Guillermo Vega, Disenador/Artist of the most beautiful collection of ceramics I ever seen in Ecuador. I personally requested to Mr. Vega to design for me dishes to serve my delicious Casuelas de platano with shrimp, he took personal interest to design it. There we go Mr. Vega did not only gave me satisfaction in giving me what I needed it but an outstanding excellent customer service.I like strongly to recommend to visit his stores in Cuenca and Quito.Congratulations to this fabulous artist/designer of Ecuador.
