The gallery was full of beautiful, creative art work. The prices were very reasonable for the high quality of the pieces.

We took our 2nd trip on the tour bus, but this time walked back down the hill to find the work of Eduardo Vega. We had heard that he is one of the best ceramic artists in Ecuador. After visiting this studio and salesroom, I have to believe his work is some of the most beautiful I have seen. The scope of his work is tremendous. There are wonderful teacups and teapots as well as vases, wall murals all in ceramic. One room is dedicated to some of his past work that is not for sale. This is a treasured experience. If we were not traveling for 6 more weeks, I would have tested the limits of airline's luggage restrictions.

As a lover of ceramics and after reading these reveiws, we visited the gallery last saturday (only open till one on saturdays) We were not dissappointed and bought some tiles with hand painted animals as well as a beautiful piece with a Tucan. Prices are reasonable and well packed for fitting in our suitcases. I would reccommend a visit.

Eduardo Vega is a very talented artist. His work depicts local daily life, native animals, flowers etc. We were very lucky when we went, as he was there and we got to talk to him! He's a very charming man. I bought three plates showing Galapagos wildlife. They will pack your purchases for shipment.

Beautiful handmade dishes, had to have them! Bright brilliant colors, it was hard to decide which ones I wanted.. I wanted them all! I bought a six piece place setting and a vase, I can add other pieces later which I intend on doing. The dishes are so cheerful and make happy just looking at them!

We debated going here because we knew if we did, we'd likely buy something. I'm glad we did. I admit that I'm not crazy about the newer works - the birds, fish, etc. are not quite my style, but we did buy a plate that is very abstract looking and seems more like his vintage work (which I love). The location and view from the studio is beautiful. The staff did a great job of packaging up our purchase so we had no problems bringing it home to Toronto.

One of the reasons we visited Cuenca was to visit this ceramics studio with the idea of taking some beautiful art works back to Canada. We were not disappointed! The ceramics we just outstanding and the prices very reasonable. The atmosphere of this small studio up on the hillside overlooking Cuenca is unique and you have the ability to look down on the artisans workshop as a group of artists ply their trade. The staff were extremely friendly and it was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city............of course we bought many pieces and would have purchased more except for the weight and baggage restrictions flying home. A must see....it is some distances outside town but all the taxi drivers know it and it will only cost you $3.00 to get there. The office staff will call you a taxi to return to the city.

My wife and I purchased a number of ceramics in early August. They arrived today, the last day of September, due to horrific customer service. Because the pieces themselves arrived intact and are so beautiful, I am giving our experience 2 stars rather than 1.The bad service began while we were in the gallery. We waited over an hour for Maria to call the post office to get us a shipping quote. We paid with our credit card and were told to expect delivery to California in 2 weeks.Three weeks later, with no delivery, I called the gallery and spoke with Maria (in Spanish). She told me that Senor Vega had been out of the country, and was the only one who could write a check (!) to pay for our shipping, but was back, and that our shipment would go out the a few days later. Two weeks later, Maria called my home and told my wife that we needed to pay $100 more to ship the pieces. I called back (as my wife doesn't speak Spanish) and Maria told me that the shipping rates had changed in (wait for it)... May, and that they had been given the wrong quote (in August) and that I had to pay another $100. When I asked why she had waited 2 weeks to call me, she told me that Senor Vega had only that day returned to Cuenca. Basically, I told Maria to ship the pieces at the price I had already paid, or to cancel the order, and that I was not happy to hear a different story every time we spoke.So... we got the pieces, but the hassle was both unpleasant and unnecessary. My advice to anyone shopping here is to take the items with you, or, if you ship, pay with a credit card (so you can dispute the charges if necessary), but only if you speak Spanish well enough to negotiate over the phone.

Beautiful ceramic artwork, in a lovely setting, with extremely affordable prices. I wish there were more of his earlier works for sale!

Worth the visit! This ceramic studio is located steps downhill from a spectacular scenic viewpoint of the city of Cuenca. The work of Eduardo Vega is internationally known, and very respected in Ecuador. The studio is beautiful on it's own, with current work for sale and some archive pieces which are for viewing only. There is a window into his team's work area for you to enjoy the process. (Address Hermano Miguel 670, Cuenca - www.eduardovega.com. Free to visit)While a larger display piece will run you about $150 USD, they are affordable original art. Smaller pieces are $25-35 USD. For those departing out of Quito - good news - he has a sales studio there too.

This is truly a special place to visit o find great pottery pieces. Take time to see the artisans at work. The owners are friendly and very helpful too. This is a well established center and represents Cuenca at its best. The view of Cuenca from the Turin area is phenomenal too.

Located on the hillside as you approach Turi, "Ceramica Vega" would be easy to miss as they display only a small sign. The shop however, can be reached by a short taxi ride from Cuenca. We requested that the driver wait for us and he obliged. First visit $6 R/T - Second visit (different driver) $8 R/T. The spectacular view looking out from "Ceramica Vega" is amazing. However, the works of art that comprise "Ceramica Vega" are a treat as well. Displayed are photographs of intricate murals residing in fortunate cities throughout the world, varied awards presented to the artist and of course, the ceramics. I have attached several photos to give you a sneak peek. The shop is not big but was enjoyed by our two taxis of both, men and women. If you decide to purchase a treasure while there, they wrap it well or they ship. We were told that they occasionally will sell "seconds" however pricing was very good and we did not inquire.

If there is only one place one could shop in all of Cuenca before returning home, Ceramica Vega is the place! We put this place above the wonderful hats store and factory near the airport – and that is saying something! Both my husband I fell in love with most of the works by the world famous artist. We come from an area that has a rich history of potters and is home to hundreds of ceramics artists. Many in our area are famous in the United States. When we enter our favorite ceramics shops in our area, we may like as much as 40% of what is on display. When we entered Ceramica Vega, we fell in love with at least 80% of what was on the shelves! This is no exaggeration as we struggled to pick the “crème de la crème” to take back with us. The colors that Eduardo Vega uses are bright and pleasing to the eyes. His subject matters go from traditional to representations of his native country. There is Galapagos Islands-themed pottery. There is a collection of native birds and hummingbirds. Pottery with gorgeous flowers adorned his ceramics. There is so much to choose from that we spent a good 90 minutes walking around his gallery that is full of light and that has a fantastic view of Cuenca. One can look from the second floor of his gallery and see what is going on in his shop. At the time of our visit, Eduardo Vega was working on a huge commissioned piece for a retired couple in Cuenca. When we finally decided on what pieces we had to take back with us, the gallery did a fantastic job of wrapping them for our trip home. Unfortunately for us, we could not use their carry-on boxes as we were maxed out on the number pieces the airlines would allow us. Ceramica Vega wrapped the numerous pieces for our suitcases, and all of the fragile pieces survived seven flights before ending up in our home! Despite loving the city of Cuenca, it is a good thing we do not live there as our home would be full of Eduardo Vega’s works! Nonetheless, we will try to fill our home in the United States with his ceramics as we will back in January to buy more of Eduardo’s beautiful pottery. Make Ceramica Vega your first stop, and enjoy the view! – In his gallery and from Turi.
