brunswick railroad museum

Now called the Brunswick Heritage Museum (because they have things other than just railroad), we enjoyed the interactive features for kids as well as the miniature train display.

Well-maintained and curated Brunswick local History Museum on second floor, combined with County exhibits and gift shop on first floor and great small scale railroad covering the entire third floor. Great place to take the kids or just spend some time browsing and learning about area history.

We saw an interesting ad for this place in a brochure of local attractions while visited Frederick. We decided to make the trip only to find out it was only open on weekends. And this was not printed on the advertisement we saw. It wasn't a long drive from Frederick, but it was definitely out of the way to drive for nothing.

If you are a railroad enthusiast this is a MUST see and visit museum. This is in the heart of Civil War country with a lot of things to see and do. The entire museum is a must-see. Make sure you plan to spend time on the 3rd floor where the ginormous model train is set up. It is very impressive! For the young and young-at-heart. A destination place! Also very close to the C and O Canal for hiking and biking!

The era of the iron horse was an important one, and many lives went into it to make it happen. It had replaced canal boats for transportation, and it barreled its way to the Western seaboard to connect our nation from one end to another. This museum honors that era.
