There really weren't many stores, and they were very small. I really didn't see old toys which is what I was looking for.
It's easy to miss the area. We did discover a farmers market in the area which was very enjoyable! We were here on Saturday morning and I would recommend a stop by. They also have a water bowl out for dogs who visit with their humans - very nice touch.
Spent a very enjoyable time at the Slidell Museum. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and provided a wonderful, personalized tour. Not sure what I liked most; the interesting artifacts or the guide's stories. Be sure you check out the Mardi Gras museum out back. Well worth a visit.
Generally need to check on thier hours but Slidell has a great number of wonderful buildings fillled with antiques. A true shopper could spend 3 or 4 hours. This is a place for antique buffs and others need to stop and get a frozen adult beverage and chill.
Although we had a difficult time really finding the depth of this area, once we did we had a good time. We stopped at a couple really neat places that we enjoyed such as The Cocoa Cabana and the Old Town Soda Shop. There are a number of intricate murals that we found, and a museum is here too. We easily spent about two hours here, and could probably find other places to spend a few more at! Considering parking is abundant and free, it's a great place that you might as well stop at if you haven't been here before.
It may not be a really large town but it is a really neat place. There are quite a few shops that have antiques and a few good places to eat like Terry Lynn's Café. I love just looking in antique stores and there is also a really great baby doll store. My husband loves getting his hair cut at the old town barber shop. In the fall and spring there is a street fair that is really fun and has lots of antique dealers for you to browse around and just enjoy the day.
A compact little historic antique district lends itself to walking, browsing, and just wandering. Some delightful shops along tree-shaded sidewalks.
I live close to it, and its amazing!!! I love the food and the exciting sights, pretty art, etc. beautiful murals
Some unique items...and lots of stores. I found things I didn't know I needed ! They were just jumping out at me....
They have special fairs to show case the area. Good food booths. Vendors from all over come and sell their wares. Music also. Good time.
The good news is that on the Sunday I arrived, they were having a street market, and there were some decent antiques to be had at good prices. The permanent shops struck me as of limited to lower quality items, and their prices were high. I would not count on finding anything, unless 1930s -1950s vintage is your "thing". Even then, I'm not sure.
Lots of great architecture, as well as cool shops and great places to eat! :)
Always find good deals in downtown NOLA. This past visit I found French bedroom tables dating back to the 1600's in excellent condition and only $1K for the pair.
the shops are good, but a lot are more flea market type stuff. For me, the best part of Olde Towne is the history and architecture. A real find!
Many of the businesses were closed. We went to a couple of the antique shops where the people were very friendly. The Sunrise Cafe on second street had great food.
