Travelled from australia to lousiana. We were booked in to do a swamp boat tour with the amazing bryan champagne swamp tours. But due to our credit cards being frozen by our australian banks upon arrival in America, we only had a small amount of cash until our banks sorted everything out. So we thought we would do a kayak tour instead so our time in breaux bridge wasnt wasted. Well.....this was just amazing. We were told that due to the cold weather we wouldnt see much wildlife....but we saw plenty! It was so quiet and beautiful kayaking on the St Martin swamp. We saw gators, turtles, some ducks and it was so nice and quiet paddling around through those big moss trees. We packed some snacks and had some lunch out on the bayou in our kayak. Got some beautiful pictures. we are still bummed we didnt get to go on a tour with bryan champagne as it would have been great to listen to the knowledge and stories he would have to tell in his interesting accent. But this kayaking is a must! The owners were so helpful and nice and they also had plenty of suggestions for local food and nightlife in breaux bridge. I would definitely do this again if i come back to breaux bridge. Also quite romantic! Take some wine and snacks!!
Son, cousin and I wanted to put our canoe and kayak in the Teche for a Sunday outing, and Corey was a tremendous help with timings and takeout points, not to mention helping shuttle us and procuring that fantastic new waterproof Bayou Teche Paddle Trail map. Our 6 mile, 2.5 hour paddle from Breaux Bridge south to Parks on a gorgeous day was not marred by a single bit of litter or obnoxious noise. The Teche + Corey + people-powered boat = perfect experience.
Enjoyed time spent with my son going down stream to Lake Martin. The trip back up steam to Breaux Bridge was quite a workout. My son did a great job and I doubt that I could have done it without him.
Corey Werk is a kind and thoughtful guide. He genuinely cares that you have a wonderful experience on Bayou Teche or Lake Martin. Both offer their own kind of beauty. Lake Martin is my favorite because of the variety of birds, but seasons do matter. Corey really knows the waters and works hard to keep them clean. He also has an Airbnb on the Teche. He knows the area as well and can offer food and fun suggestions for enjoying Acadiana.
My husband and I did the self-guided kayak tour of Bayou Teche, the canal, and beautiful Lake Martin. Bayou Teche experience was so quick to respond to our e-mails prior to our trip and really gave us the exact information we were looking for. We found Cory to be extremely personable and full of great advice, and not only about kayaking and Bayou Teche; he actually took the time to tell us about alternate driving routes for our return drive back to New Orleans, and also told us about a great local place to eat some amazing crawfish (Crawfishtown, USA)! Renting kayaks from Bayou Teche Experience allows you to tour the bayou and lake at your own pace (much more so than taking a swamp boat tour with a bunch of other tourists!) and is an opportunity to participate in something active during your trip...plus you can get more up close and personal with the wildlife while quietly paddling through the cypress trees. My husband and I have agreed: our 'road trip' from New Orleans to Breaux Bridge to kayak Bayou Teche was the most memorable part of our Louisiana trip:)
We enjoyed a wonderful 8 hr self-guided canoe trip on the Bayou Teche! Corey Werks, the owner, has a passion for the bayou and is a wealth of information. His stories of the Bayou are something we will always remember. We always like to do active things if possible on vacation, and Bayou Teche offered many options for guided and unguided canoe and kayak experiences.
Having spent a night in the kayaking cabin (also a bnb), we took a self-guided tour along the river, canal and into Lake Martin. Cory was super helpful and knowledgeable, he gave us a map and very clear directions so we had no trouble finding our way. He also picked us up from the lake and took us to see the rookery where ibis, spoonbills and egrets were nesting - as well as pointing out a 'medium' gator sitting under a tree (6ft). A great experience, would highly recommend.
It was a great time!! Cory is owner/operator of his uprising little business. As far as Kayaking he is the only one for the area. You can do a guided tour or self guided. He is very knowledgable of the sport and the area. He assisted us in having a memorable time in the area. We would definitely come back again and would love to see all that this enthusiastic young man has accomplished with all the various water activities he has in store for the future.
We had a great time kayaking on Bayou Teche. Cory is absolutely first class guy. It was a breeze to set up the trip. The kayaks were great, Cory explained everything we needed to know, gave kayaking tips and showed the route. We went through Bayou and the canal to Lake Martin. The lake, the swamp, was just unbelievable. The alligators, turtles, birds everywhere. My kids, 11 and 16 had a blast spotting gators. Cory picked us up at the end of the trip at the lake. On the way back to the starting point Cory gave us an overview of the the history of the area and its people, as well as recommendations on local attractions. The trip on Bayou Teche and Lake Martin was a highlight of our visit in Acadia. Thanks Cory!
Cory, owner and operator of Bayou Teche Experience, gave a quick heads up on how to properly get in & out, plus paddling...and we had a terrific time on the Bayou. So fun. Horses ran along the banks while we were kayaking past them. Cory was patient and really took care of us. His mom grew up in the area, Cory was a world class fencer in Europe, speaks fluent German, French as well as English. He knows the area because he lives there. I highly recommend his company to experience the Bayou up close and personal. THANKS, CORY!!!
A great way to show your out of town guests the beautiful Bayou Teche. Cory gave us a quick kayaking 101 lesson before launching the boats. It was an hour and 45 minutes of bird watching, turtle scaring, sun worshiping, and laughing at our kayaking prowess.
We kayaked off season in late December with our two boys in their own kayak. Great tandem open kayaks and an easy paddle down the Bayou Teche with a picnic stop along the way. It was a perfect length of time (approx 3 hours) and interesting to see how people live along the river on this urban/rural ride. The night kayak on Lake Martin swamp would be an excellent ride as well to hear the sounds of the swamp and see the alligators feeding. Very reasonable price.
First, you must talk with this guy and get the lay of the land as to your tastes: do you wish to kayak or canoe, and do you want to do a bayou or a big lake such as Lake Martin. Cory got me enthused about doing my first time trial of 8 miles round trip on the Bayou Teche! Wow, I didn't think I could do it! Thanks Cory, You're the best and good looking too!
A truly magical experience paddling from Bayou Teche and into Lake Martin! On a weekday, I think I was the only one for hours along these waterways, which was both eerie and blissful! If you happen to make it to Cajun Country, make Breaux Bridge your homebase and head over to Bayou Teche Experience where Cory will set you up for an amazing, not-to-be forgotten experience.
This was the highlight of a 6 week trip I did to the U.S. Cory is a really nice guy, who has great kayaks, and tells you everything you need to know for your paddling, including showing you detailed maps of where you are going. I did a paddle down Bayou Teche, through a canal, and into Lake Martin. Lake Martin includes a quintessencial Louisiana swamp, complete with cypress trees with Spanish moss, egrets, ibises, herons, water lilies, and alligators. Don't worry - the alligators are not interested in kayaks ! I had a great time.
