There is a small fee for tasting which is NOT shown on their website. The wine was generally not bad. There was a good selection of dry to sweet. Lots of narrow stairs to get upstairs to the tasting room. Could be a problem if you have bad knees.
They offer tastings and a tour of the winery. We arrived right after a tour and didn’t have time to wait for the next tour so we didn’t get that experience. The tasting is four wines for 5 dollars. They were heavy into the sweet wines, which I do not enjoy, but my companion liked several of them. The gift shop is quite extensive with some unique items. The locals seem to like the place as two of there wine club members bought wines while we were there. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
we took a tour of this small winery and learned alot about the wine making process on a smaller scale. After the tour we had the option to try either dry or sweet wines and they even paired it with some food.
It took awhile for the lady to warm up to us. the wines were pretty decent especially if you like sweet wines. they did let us bring our own food in when we bought a glass of wine. she seemed hesatant but she agreed. tasting was pretty cheap 5 bucks for four tastings and they even did a paring for 5 bucks with chocolate .
Unfortunately we visited out of the season so unable to take in the tasting. Bought a few bottles to take home and savor. Very pleasant tastes. Will assure we go back in October when the wine season is in fast flow and take advantage of the wineries tour.Trevor & Jan Banks
Three wineries in town. One didn't have a tour the other was 100% outside, this one was 90% in a 60 degree wine cellar. It was heaven just that alone but I learned a few new things this time which is why I don't mind going on so many different ones. This was my favorite winery in the Brenham area for so many reasons. The tastings were half the price as the other two, they had a white port that was amazing, they had the most merchandising and wine themed trinkets, they collected corkscrews which were fun to look at while we drank on couches or the covered porch. Multiple people working along with the two married owners who actually were the ones that waited on us and personally thanked us for joining their wine club. I liked every wine I tried and compared to the others this was the best quality and also the cheapest so I got lucky. We went to the grape stomp they have once or twice a year and we really enjoyed it. The owner ended up helping us into the barrel and asked for one of our phones and took dozens of different pictures as we smashed grapes and stepped on the souvenir shirt. This winery felt comfortable which is why we stayed a few hours more here than anywhere else. We ended up doing a wine tasting then a port tasting because the customer service was friendly and offered! They were the first to offer and we forgot to try their chocolates. We are planning to go back for some of their pick up parties because we enjoyed how welcoming of hosts they were and we will try the chocolates then. They have a chocolatier that infused their ports in the chocolate and it sounded delicious how much they all were selling it to us. Highly recommend. I'll be bringing my family there for the pick up parties and since we are part of the wine club they get a free tasting also. This winery was the only one that admitted using other local grapes and even getting one grape from France. I think that made the difference in their wines. They weren't stubborn to only use the grapes that grew in Brenham to make not so great wine, they knew what grew in Brenham all didn't make the best wine so they get some from Lubbock and all over whatever makes the best wine.
Very small, quiet, nice winery. Very small inside, when a tour bus arrived we could barely move in the wine tasting area. Wine was nice. Didn't spend more than 1 hour here. Over all it was a nice stop.
Pleasant Hills Winery is as pleasant as it's name implies from the sweet couple that owns it to all the unique trinkets scattered throughout the store. I spent over an hour between wine tastings wandering around and wanting to buy everything I saw. The owner definitely loves purple just as much as I do! At the other end of the store, there is a display case of new and antique corkscrews which show how drastically these devices have evolved over the years. Pretty neat collection! We took a look at their wine bottling area, roamed around the fields, checked out the bluebonnets, and viewed their ranch under construction from a distance. Man, they are living the good life. Hard to believe this is tucked away, yet so close to the highway. I would love to visit again, grab a chilled glass of white wine and check out their sunset on the patio!
Very quiet and deserted, but at least it was open during the week. Very beautiful inside. Wines were good, not excellent. Friendly server though.
What an apropos name! This winery was adorable. The people were very accommodating. It was a very enjoyable experience. The wine was tasty. We will definitely be back.
Came this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. We had an absolute blast. I had a party of 14 and they accommodated us very well...even with the crazy storm outside! Our party is looking forward to trying it again one day. The wine selections were great, we had fun being winos.
I paid to take the tour of the winery. I had some questions for the winemaker who happens to also be the owner. I showed up early hoping to speak with him. I first spoke to a younger gentleman who worked there and he was very friendly but could not answer my questions. He told me I should speak with the owner. When I saw the owner I went up to him and introduced myself and told him I had some questions. He immediately got hostile and professed he was a nice guy but very rudely refused to answer any questions. I decided to tour the winery anyway since I had already paid for the tour. Upon entering the cellar I noticed it was cluttered and dirty as was the gift shop. It just so happened the day we toured they were releasing a 2007 Cab Sav. It was off color and terrible. I also tasted a white that was mediocre at best. The vineyard was not well taken care of with lots of dead grapes on the vines and gaps where vines had died and were removed. It was very clear that the owner had no pride in his operation and he was only interested in taking your money. Needless to say I left the tour early very disappointed and feeling ripped off. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Pleasant Hill Winery is just a short drive from our B&B. We send all our guests out to enjoy this lovely spot in the country. The vintners are extremely knowledgeable, the wines have won all kinds of awards and there is nothing better than sitting on their deck with a food & wine pairing! The Blac du Bois is wonderful with savory cheese and cheesecake!!
We originally found this winery courtesy of Ant Street Inn. The Blanc du Bois was set out with cheese and crackers for the social hour and we enjoyed it while rocking on the second story balcony. It was heaven and for the first time in my life I got a second glass of white wine! I am a red fan usually and love it with Italian or for no reason at all! Anyway, I noticed a Pleasant Hill Winery flyer in the foyer the next morning and quickly added that to our weekend fun to do list. We arrived just in time for the last tour and took the sweet wine tasting so we'd be sure to get our favorite. The owner told us the family and vineyard history over tastings of the next several wines. We viewed the cellar where wine is fermented, tested and bottled. Very interesting and charming to see the small family business success. Some awards are displayed in their gift shop area and I saw mention of a port...hmm. Upon returning my last glass I noticed a port tasting offered. I couldn't resist. Who even knew there was a white port, or that port is made with brandy? Such a wealth of knowledge and such a wonderful hostess! We also tried the Rosso and Tawny Rosso and were amazed! They also have handcrafted artisan chocolate made with their port ;). We really enjoyed our tour and this was our last "big" event to cap off our anniversary weekend so it will be remembered. So a bottle of Blanc du Bois and Rosso Porte for souvenirs, we're feeling our way back to Ant Street thoroughly thrilled with our quick trip outside of Brenham. Now, if I could just get my new favorite wine in Houston!
We enjoyed a beautiful day driving to Brenham and visiting this vineyard. The owner is to be commended for his hospitality and knowledge of wine growing in Texas! It really was interesting. Its a small place but so enjoyable! I highly recommend this!
