We watched eagerly as Georgia Gun Club was being built near the corner of Old Peachtree Road and Hwy 124. When it finally opened last summer, we were one of the first to check it out, and have been visiting regularly ever since.I'm not an indoor shooter per se - I much prefer shooting outdoors where you can shoot on the move, around obstacles, etc., but for practice or sighting in, there's nothing better than an indoor range - especially if you're sighting in several rifles with new scopes as I did last weekend. The 100 yard indoor range is ideal for the job - the motorized target holders beat the heck out of walking 100 yards to reset targets, check group size, etc.The range is also VERY clean, climate controlled, and WELL VENTILATED! It is hands down the best indoor range I've ever shot at, and nothing else in the area holds a candle to it. Other ranges around town are old, musty, filthy, and have poor ventilation. Worse, they are unsupervised and it seems that any idiot with a driver's license can walk in, rent full auto firearms, and shoot ceilings, walls, hangers, etc. (that actually happened to me at a range in Lawrenceville - needless to say we left immediately). Georgia Gun Club has an NRA certified range safety officer on each of their ranges, and they require every person new to shooting there to watch a safety video, and more importantly the range officer makes sure everyone is practicing gun safety so you don't have to worry about the people shooting next to you. However, they do it in a friendly, professional manner. I've not witnessed idiots like those mentioned above at GGC, but I have seen new shooters who were handling firearms incorrectly, and the range officer quickly and kindly explained and demonstrated good gun handling, and kept a watchful eye on them to make sure they learned - they did and seemed pleased with their experience. I would highly recommend it as a great place for new shooters if an outdoor range isn't available to them.I've written a lot about the range, but there is much more to GGC. They have a simulator training room that is fantastic - using CO2 powered Glocks you can practice your shooting skills in simulated real world situations, or the requisite Zombie apocalypse, wild west shootouts, etc. I prefer the real world stuff, and it's not a video that's the same every time, the shoot/no shoot targets are controlled by the range operator so the scenario is different every time, even in the same "location". The simulator was a great experience - my daughter and I competed head to head. They also have a great retail store, online store, and a gun smith on site. If you purchase a firearm, they include free range time. If you buy online and pick it up in store, it's a bit cheaper than off the shelf, but in stock on their website doesn't mean in stock in the store - it takes them a few days to get it. They have also been offering Group-ons regularly for range and simulator time, which makes it an excellent value.Memberships are pricey, I live less than 3 miles away but haven't joined due to the high price tag and the fact that I prefer to shoot outdoors, but if you shoot indoors a lot they may be worth considering. Otherwise, go for the Group-on deals!
