Fantastic views out to sea and back to Cardiff. Nice walk along to the attraction too. Great for families, couples, solo walks etc. Would recommend on a clear day to see as much as possible.

From the quay at Cardiff Bay it's a bracing walk to the barrage. Slightly strange to have the calm water of the bay on one side and the sea on the other. The derelict industrial buildings are an unattractive contrast to the view of striking modern architecture.

Wait to see the road being lifted vertcally and the level being raised to allow the barrieres to part and the fishing vessels coming into the bay for the night.

Great way to get away from the busy Cardiff City Centre. Easily accessible by taxi and large variety if restaurants/ bars.

Our walk was under a blue sky on a very cold windy day. It cleared away the cobwebs but it was worth it. What Cardiff city has developed around the bay is remarkable & a must to visit

Lovely to be able to walk via this right around the bay and explore the marinas and walks over the barrage from Penarth. You can even catch the boat back if tired!

My husband and I often park at Penarth side then cycle a circuit taking in the barrage, Mermaid Quay , Sports village and back over new bridge to Penarth. We live more than 20 miles from Cardiff so have to bring car. The Barrage locks are always working letting boats in and out of the bay and never cease to amaze.

Lovely area with brilliant walks especially walking from the barrage into the quay which has nice places to eat

Well worth the walk around the bay, especially if you are staying at the St.David Hotel. Would have been nice to have had a place to get coffee near the barrage, however, this might have been due to the time of year that we did our walk (Dec 24th). Probably not a good walk if it is extremely windy. Would have also been an excellent route to bicycle. The path is also part of the Wales Coast Path -- a 1440 km route along the entire coast of Wales.

we walked from our hotel to the bay and then completely around the bay and back to our hotel, took about three hours but well worth the effort.

The first time I saw this I was utterly amazed - a previously dirty, muddy, tidal bay (Tiger Bay!) was transformed by this incredibly difficult civil engineering challenge into a huge freshwater lakemaking up the all-new 'CARDIFF BAY'. The barrage holds back the Bristol Channel, whilst still allowing access to Cardiff Docks, with an earthworks barrier, whichthen becomes a truly brilliant metal system of sea locks permitting access to/from the Bristol Channel for small vessels. It is truly breathtaking.

Love to walk from the bay to the barrage, boats often past through and the entire process is great to watch. Kids love it! The only better way to experience it is go out to sea yourself (with someone experienced) :)

Often do the circular walk or jog from Cardiff bay to the barrage through penarth marina and back to mermaid quay. Excellent for a walk on a sunny day, if you look carefully you can see the severn bridges in the distance.

really liked the views/walk/drinks at both ends, GREAT!Parking for drivers is limited if arriving from a distance, but the drive is worth it once you get parked

Pay and display car park at the Penarth end of the barrage offers a great view of the fabulous Cardiff Bay regeneration. Also, you can take a ferry boat over to the City, thereby avoiding the traffic and parking hazards of driving into town.
