Played a visit to this pub afternoon 21st May "14. Service was friendly by Monaco standards. No obvious drinks menu displayed. Payed €11.00 for 25cl Heineken and 50cl Magners. Piped music was very loud, but strangely I could still hear an Englishman trying to sell investments to a potential customer in a corner of the bar. There were 4 or 5 TV screens on ( with sound off) all showing golf and creating unnecessary heat. With just the four of us in this fairly largebar there was little or no atmosphere. On the plus side WiFi connection was good. Can't understand why its called an Irish bar though. We were only inclined to stay for one drink.
we bought 2 bottles to celebrate a birthday EIGHT HUNDRED euro , What a disgracefull rip off, a new owner has bought the bar we were told.
Great little bar tucked away behind the famous F1 hairpin. Fantastic pint of the black stuff and polite staff
We nearly walked by this great place when looking for a decent, affordable place to eat in Monte Carlo, where this combination is very rare. It's a genuine Irish pub - a nice one. If that's what you're looking for it's a great place to go. The great positive surprise is that the food is really good, too. During my one week stay in Monte Carlo I had three dinners here. All tasty and much better than the more fancy menu at e.g. Bouchon a couple of blocks away. Actually the best food I had in Monte Carlo during my one week stay. My favourite: their fillet du boef with mushroom sause. It's fabulous!Yes, it's a pub, so if you're out for fine dining, you need to look elsewhere. If you're openminded you'll have a great dinner in a nice pub atmosphere at an affordable price. Highly recommended.
great place to visit, accommodating and relaxed staff that allow the evening to flow. The band let us join in and even sang Happy Birthday to a colleague!A good pint of Guinness almost Dublin quality. Plenty of spirits. Attracted a good mix of people!Go again, Hell yeah!
Not bad at all. A bog standard Irish Pub with decent atmosphere and lovely outdoor seating in the sun. OTOH, nothing extra special. Still, out of the joints on this street, pick McCarthy's.
This is a very nice pub with good beer, efficient service and a relaxed atmosphere. Inside can be a bit warm and crowded, but find a table outside and enjoy a cold beer and all the different people passing by. Locals as well as tourists enjoy this place.
While staying at one of the posh hotels with high cost of internet - we clearly fell upon McCarthy's and was close by the Fairmont where we were staying. Free WiFi, so we went there each day - had a few drinks and one day we had a meal which was unbelievable - a Tapas plate - you must try - great to share. All meals looked great and were big. The Barman was friendly and recognised us when we came on day two and then day three like greating an old friend.
I went here with my friends and it was a lovely atmosphere. The staff were okay. The food is great (my favourite thing here)!! Amazing quality food for a pub. A bit pricey but worth it. McCarthy's is in a good location and drinks are good. Nice place to go if you want to get away from the glitzy glamourous Monaco to somewhere a bit more normal..See full review here - http://followingstephanie.wordpress.com/2013/07/13/return-to-monaco/
We found live music on Saturday night!Staff were friendly, location is great for a dip into the casino after a couple of drinks.Toilets could do with some work - no running water made it impossible to wash your hands.
I had seen reviews about McCarthy's as an affordable option in Monaco for a beer/burger. Well... It seems they remodeled and although it is very nice and the food was REALLY good. Part of me wanted to let people know this is no dive bar. I paid 25Euro for a burger and my wife's lunch salad was 17Euro. Now I know... It's Monaco. We spent money all over town and had some great meals but I have to say the burger I had a McCarthy's was the only meal I had in Monaco that was worth the money... Just don't go there thinking it's going to be cheap!
This pub doesn't seem to want any young customers. A group of eighteen year olds went there recently to celebrate the end of school, they all had genuineID, were local Monaco residents, and were over 18. They all ordered food having booked a table for dinner, but the management refused to serve alcohol to the OVER 18's unless they had "been18 for at least two months". Every ID was checked with a seeming random cut off as to who could have a drink and who could not not. A planned celebration was thus spoiled. This was not only insulting but illogical. Where is the law that says 18 and a bit? a very disappointing way to treat local potential customers who will now ensure that the word gets round.
Enjoyed the food - was great. Had a grin when the Heineken girls were passing round samples of the their lager. I wish the Tullamore Dew or Bushmill girls had been there ;)
In April 2013 McCarthys reopened after being closed for a few months of refurbishment. The layout is new, the snug is gone, the bar has been moved, the opening hours have been extended and the food menu, which previously was just above zero, is now very good; lots of burger choices, pizzas, salads etc. Overall this is a big improvement. They've also got a few sports screens although I think they don't have any subscription based stuff such as Sky. Good marks for the positive transformation. Much nicer atmosphere.
McCarthy's was PACKED before 2000...drink specials...friendly staff...and a great selection of beer on tap!
