Allow plenty of time as these markets are huge and busy. There are a variety of stalls from the usual tat to some really good quality bargains. Lots of tools and such like to keep the men happy. The fruit and vegetables were all locally grown and very fresh. There are places to sit and have a drink and something to eat. The trains also run from the station at different intervals which makes it a good family day out. There is plenty of parking and no admission fee for the buyers.
Even though I came late, I immediately found some beautiful glassware. There was also delicious homemade items and fresh fruit. I bought some marmalade and seasoning paste that was amazing. Great market! Come early!
We went along expecting a great foodie market but were disappointed. It's a bit tired & needs reinventing its self. Same old same old!
Why staying we came to the market, it is like most country markets with local produce and country food, along with Bric a Brac
We called in here on passing through the town. Glad we did. It made a very pleasant break with some interesting stalls. Was very well done with a good variety
I love the markets... This one wasn't so great. There were just a few stalls with some produce... Where are the coffees, and nibblies? I guess I'm comparing the Red Hill, Mornington and Margaret River markets and was hoping for something similar.
Really enjoyed my visit here, good parking good stalls, lovely mittens purchased but very windy and cold. Delightful town to visit.
I went there with husband and two kids, the place is big and there are lots of interesting things to see and very very good bargains. They also sell food but it is mainly for clothes, bric-a-brac and furniture. No roof so make sure it doesn't rain.
This was a very eclectic market. We came away barely able to carry the plants and jams and other goodies. Well worth a visit
Love coming here. Always find something to buy that is interesting. Lots to choose from whether old or new and good prices.
4 And A Half Stars, because the coffee from the coffee stand was the best I've had in a year! Although yes, you have to wade through the trash to find the treasure at this old school market, the high points are the fresh bread and other produce. One tiny food stall sells only a few things but does them well: minestrone soup, samosas etc- a lovely sustaining feed to contrast with the tempting chips and sausages on offer elsewhere. Enjoy the stroll around looking at rusty tools and implements for mysterious purposes, and what about the tourist train in the heart of it all? The market is dog friendly, and so is the train if the dog promises to be well behaved, so take a trip in the kind of historic trains country people once knew (most city dwellers never saw one before) and roll on through the countryside. You might see crimson rosellas like I did, even a kangaroo in the forest!
It was a perfect day for a Sunday market but I was disappointed by the quality of local produce and goods at the Daylesford Sunday Market today. Not what I expected from the Daylesford brand. There were plenty of stalls but most were selling items of mixed to poor quality. The highlight was the Red Beard bread stall - excellent. It is still worth a visit for the spectacle if it's a good day and you may just be lucky and find just what you're looking for!
Being lovers of sunday markets, we expected something more after reading in the local tourism guide that the Sunday Market was the biggest in the area. Wasn't helped, I don't suppose by a bitingly cold wind that had even the hardy locals putting on extra layers. Weather aside, or perhaps simply because of it, the number and variety of stall holders was disappointingly poor. Yes, there were some local farm produce suppliers such as Des O'Toole with his varieties of honey - pity we had bought some from his roadside outlet the day before - but the trash and treasure lots contained very few 'treasures' from our point of view. On the positive side, entry to the market is free and you can stay for as little or long as you want. We would have stayed longer on a warmer day I am sure - less weather to be exposed to and more stall holders pushing their wares. Worth a look even on a bad day just to see who the characters in the town are.
The Daylesford Sunday Market at the old railway station has a mixture of everything. Food, jams, hats, socks, antiques, lots of bric a brack, 2nd hand clothing - something for everyone! Well worth a visit if you're in the Daylesford area.
We made our way through the market but we were not tempted to look at much. Most stalls seemed rather old fashioned and uninspiring - Honey stall is good.
