Well organized and informative. Historical photos and descriptions are great, lots of information about the town of Collingwood and its oroginal citizens
It is quite small with a few static displays. Not a lot of information is given for a number of the displays. Some interesting pieces to look at. No admission fee but a suggested donation of $3 per person - don't think it is really worth it. The lady at the Visitor Information booth was very helpful.
Just walking through the town of Collingwood, will not tell you much about the unique history that it has. That's why I decided to check out the Collingwood Museum. There was great photos of how it looked like as a shipyard town, of the old railway system that ran through the town and of the town during the wars. Very informative and the staff were also quite nice there too.
The museum has very static exhibits obviously put together on a highly limited budget. There is, however, a wealth of tourist information regarding attractions in the area. It is admirable that the city and/or volunteers have renovated the railroad depot to provide the museum and tourist information. No fees but a donation of $3.00 is suggested, but not required.
The old Railway Station has been transform into a Museum about the town and it's Ship building past. Worth a visit.
love looking at the info from the past and looking up people I have heard about from times gone by. The volunteers know their stuff and like to talk to you about the area.
Fine little museum telling the history of the railroad. Also had great display on the Geographic and Native people. Staff was wonderful, full of information and humor. Fine selection of maps.
We were very disappointed with the museum, took us all of 5 min. to walk around. Nothing much to see inside. However, if you need tourist information there is a very nice young man who will go out of his way to help you find whatever your looking for in Collingwood.
Personable young man in the tourist information centre within the museum went out of his way to find us suitable accommodation.
It may be of interest to those who are passionate about ship building. It does give some idea of the local industries in the past but I thought there would be more exhibits of artifacts from the Huron people of the area. There is no set charge, you just give a donation.
Lots of great local brochures on what to see and do in the areaand good advice from the staff. The "museum" display wasn't all that great.
If you can find it - it is worth a visit but don't rely on Sat Nav or the locals for directions! Some interesting facts on the history of Collingwood in this small musium
