Largest rock quarry for swimming in Canada and one of largest in world ... A really fun experience for all those who enjoy a cooler swim on a hot Spring / Summer / early Fall day ... Located right next to Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, which is a can't miss attraction, also, so you have two great things to see without going far ... You will most assuredly enjoy your day seeing both of them.
I expected the Quarry water to be cold so I'd been kidding my friends in St. Marys that they needed to get it warmed up for me. When I plunged in (early July) I was pleasantly surprised to find the water to be really pleasant. There were lots of people at the Quarry but the pool is enormous and it didn't seem crowded at all. It was a really special experience to swim in the pure water surrounded by walls of limestone and greenery.Change rooms are basic and could use some updating - but they were clean and adequate.
(2014) There is a high dive board and low board as well as cliff jumping but all have been closed for some time apparently. The water level is down about a foot or so but this is the reason for the closures. Water is very clean and there is room to suntan and picnic but they also don't want swimmers to jump or dive from concrete edge of quarry even though there is plenty of depth in my opinion. There are two floating rafts and one has a slide. Visit was good but the experience would have been much, much better if the boards and cliff were open.
turning an old quarry into an enormous pool was a great idea. Really natural surroundings. Almost like swimming in a lake, except with paved deck , showers, etc. Really unique.
Wow if you get a chance stop in and have a swim at the St. Marys Quarry. It is deep and cold but very refreshing. Definitely a place to stop on a hot day.
Do yourself a favor and make the quarry a priority on a trip to the St. Marys area in the summer! Went on the first day of the season this year (June 15th). Water was so clear and refreshing (around 68F at the time). There are fish in the water, cliff jumping, diving boards, rafts and lots of life guards. Price is definately reasonable 4.50$ for adults, 3.50$ for Youth.Warning: No "shallow-end". For Intermediate to advanced swimmers. New swimmers will need to wear a life jacket, but still worth it!I used to swim here when i was a kid, and it's a place i really look forward to going to when i'm in the area.
