Having several days tickets for the Stratford Theater we decided to take our RV and camp instead of using a hotel. The park is a little further out from Stratford ( 12 km) than we hoped but it worked out well. The sites are not large but sufficient. Try to avoid the spots near the road because it can be quite noisy with the truck gearing down o take the new circle that was recently installed. That stops about midnight and starts again at about 6:00 am. Also there is a problem with the lower sites when it rains. You are standing on grass and we needed a tractor to get us out after a nights rain. the far sites are the best but apparently they are quite used to having to tow someone out. There are a lot of things for families to do at this park. A pool, dock, and very large lake, canoeing, fishing, trails, and fishing. Bring your bikes to get around. there are electric and none electric sites either under cover or in the open. Will use more of the park on our next visit.
Camping SiteThe park is very clean, signage everywhere to help you get around if you forgot the map. 3 sections of trailer/tenting lots, a couple pavilions, kids play grounds, and campsites are average size. The tree lots consist of 4 - 6 trunks, so it's not really shaded. Some sites have quite an incline and force you to set up near the base. It rained out a friend who needed to move his tent to high ground and slept on a serious angle.TenantsMost occupants are seniors and trailer owners. We had some music playing just past 11pm (reasonable volume) and were informed no music past 11 by 3 rangers but they allowed the huge (VERY LOUD) group trailer party to ROCK ON till 1am. Everyone was friendly, everyone waved, we even had many converse with us about the weather, or our great set-up.Staff & Amenities Super friendly, properly dressed to identify, and clean cut staff. Quick at the gates to let you in/out, always someone around if you needed their help. Wood, and ice are overpriced but in abundance if you need it.Beach front is nice and clean, has a play ground, volleyball court, but with water comes lots of seagulls. I've been told it's a great place to fish by many people over the years but have yet to cast my line there.St. Mary'sOnly a few minutes away, has a chocolate store, sandwich shop, cultures coffee, and a large grocery store.Local AttractionsBaseball Hall of Fame
We went on a Sunday with friends to check out the conservation area for future visits. $12 per car for a day visitor, so if there are a few people or more in the car it is good value. The conservation area is massive with a huge lake, and after looking at the complimentary map we were given at the entrance gate, I realize this place is a good day out if you have a mountain bike, a boat or a fishing rod. The bike trail looks approximately 25km long running the entire circuit of the lake. I presume you need a good few hours on the bike to complete that. One of our party had a fishing rod and spent the day fishing. He caught a couple of good sized carp, so there are definitely fish in the lake. We had a picnic, under the shade of the many trees in the large picnic area which is next to the lake, Nice place if you want to relax look at the lake and do nothing or play on the volleyball court.I Will return but with a bike as that will make a good day out.Pros - Good value, large shaded picnic area. lots of space.Cons - Extensive wooded trail is too far to walk to from picnic area and really only good for mountain bikes.
I have lived in and around Wildwood, for over 35yrs. It is a nice clean ,family oriented conservation area(part of the UTCA). It offers decent camping opportunities for those who wish a more pastoral experience. By this I mean ,you will not find rugged landscapes or stunning vistas. What you will find are reasonably large ,well tended sites. most with good cover .others more open. The park features both tent and RV sites(with all the usual hook ups and dumping facilities). It has non-electric and electric sites (for those with trailers). . The campers have the use of a pool, nice for the kids. Laundry facilities are located in the camping area as is a park store.Day visitors may use the beach ,it has a pavillion and a kids play area. Boat docks are available as is the the ramp for launching . Canoe rentals are available. Various water toys and equipment is available for use,on a first come basis. I would say for a young family ,visiting the Stratford/St Marys/ London Area. It would be a good spot to camp out for a few days. Check out the trails too.
I have hounded Trip Advisor to include this wonderful forest walk that I have known all my life. Hounded is the operative word. Sometimes you want to leave special places in the unknown category but I will share this one in the world.I have included a number of fall pictures ... a little late but these were offered in a timely way but TripAdvisor, in the beginning, refused the beauty. Please judge for yourself.
