We were saying at a sister property and decided to go here for dinner. We ordered the tasting menu and after the second course, realized what we were being served wasn't what was on the menu. The server confirmed this and said, oh yes, the menu HAD changed a few days before. Hmmmm, okay then what am I eating? If I am dropping $1000 for a meal, with wine and gratuity, please tell me what I am eating. Some of the items were great, some just okay. We had pork tenderloin for our main entree and we all thought, meh. The meal itself was "okay", not really worthy of a Relais and Chateaux designation. The Sommelier was off the charts great though. Very funny and thorough.
Spent 3 hrs on a recent morning marveling at the beauty of this area. Seals, birds, and a mile of brown sugar sand beach await you.
If you come to Nantucket to relax and "get away from it all" then the Wauwinet is a step further along that path. It is literally on the other side of the Island, about as far from "town" as one can get. It is both luxurious and relaxing in the best old world hotel sense. The staff is most pleasant and very accommodating from the front desk to the porters and transport drivers. Both bay and ocean front beach are available for lounging, reading or boating. Quiet and elegant library and "living room" with fireplace(of course) are present for those preferring to stay indoors or if the weather is not amenable to outdoor activities. A spa is another attraction for some. The Toppers restaurant next door is probably the overall best on the Island, and breakfast and lunch provide good choices and high quality food and service. These can be taken outdoors in the veranda area or on the expansive lawn overlooking the bay water side, especially nice for lunch or drinks. Despite an isolated setting (why many people come ) shuttle service to both their sister hotel (the wonderful White Elephant) and town (Federal St) is available regularly thoughout the day and evening. It is about a 20 minute ride each way.Such luxury does not come cheap but I came away feeling my investment had been definitely worth it. The rooms are wonderful, again mixing old world charm and modern elegance. Once my funds are repleted, I will definitely be back- hopefully many more times!
Great place to cool down from work and daily headaches. The hotel is a b&b establishment with a great restaurant. Everybody at the front desk were very helpful. I little far away from the city if you stay for more than a weekend . Overall you will enjoy nature and peace . Don't come in winter :)))))
The place is a delicatessen itselfEverybody willing to PLEASE You !Dishes You will never Eat elsewhere Best cooking, best attention Best ambience
I booked a table for my husband and I in Aug 2014. We took the boat shuttle form the White Elephant, which was nice and ate the Prix Fix Meal. I upgraded to the Tuna which was oily and just overall made me gag. The gnocchi was daily tasteless and the spinach was grainy. The desert was okay. My husband enjoyed his meal of lobster and scallops, but agreed it was not worth the expense. The drinks were suboptimal as well (mixed, not wine). We took a cab back to sconset and had a drink at the Summer House, which was lovely.
A fabulous place to get away for a few days. Top service, beautiful rooms, lots of amenities .. We felt we were part of an artists picture looking at the spectacular scenery on both the bay and ocean side.we can't wait to come again next year!
Service very poor, many mistakes on the order. Very hotel restaurant like experience with no smiles or interest in what the staff is serving. The lounge chairs are great to sit on after eating, but next time I will bring my own cappy from downtown and skip the food. Dated too…..
We stayed here for nearly a week and it was simply wonderful. Staff were friendly and happy to help with any request. Coffee and freshly baked pastries are provided free from 7 and we took back to our deck to start the day. Cheese and port at 4 is a nice touch. The views from the front lawn are fabulous and you have access to two beaches. Daniel the concierge is outstanding. He put immense effort into arranging dinner reservations in town for every night of our stay. We let him pick where we ate and he got it right every time. He advised us on places to visit and arranged a picnic. Thank you Daniel you made our stay really special. We loved Wauwinet and will certainly be back.
wonderful ambience, exceptional service. Loved the chairs and cocktail table in the sand...the view was spectacular. LOVED THIS PLACE! but did not eat there
We had dinner on the patio on a cool rainy night. The heaters kept the patio at a very comfortable temperature but I would recommend the indoor dining room if celebrating an occasion. The food was presented nicely but the meals was not a knock out. We did order a very nice($$$$)bottle of red wine which was decanted and left on our table. I found it very strange that the waiter did not come to the table to refresh our glasses. All in all, we will go again next year.
The drink outside at the sunset is just unforgettable moment. The cuisine is sophisticated and the best dish is the lobster.
Visit the Wauwinet just to see the fall arrangements they have in the front of the building. If you are not staying there.. stop in for a drink , cozy bar and welcoming host Eric love to see people enjoy the property and the facilities.
We biked out to Wauwinet from town and spent time on a beautiful morning reading on the beach. After that, we went to Millies which is a few hundred feet from the beach. Very nice bar, very casual (as beach bars tend to be). We had the best shrimp tacos we've ever had here, and for Nantucket it was very reasonable. Lots of fun and good food.
I was a guest for a cocktail hour here at the hotel. The view is lovely on a nice day. The landscaping is attractive. The outdoor seating was relaxed. It is an upscale environment. The menu is so limited. Nothing on it for dinner interested me. There are basically NO appetizers to enjoy with your cocktails unless you start getting creative and a bit pushy for them to do something in the kitchen. The servers are not in control of the menu but take the heat for the disappointment for the lack of variety on the menu. We were able to get a fruit tray, cheese platter, nuts, chips, and some kind of fish salad on crackers yuck! But for an upscale place, it left a lot to be desired in interesting my palate!
