I love it ! It is warm in the winter. They have a sort of sandwiches. The atmosphere is perfect. I ate a sandwich with brie cheese and apple. It was delicious!!
Great place to stretch your legs, looks at some books, check out used CDs & movies and enjoy some local art. (If I only had $450 I didn't know what to do with, one of those paintings would have come home with me!) I didn't try any of the food or drinks but there are what looks like a couple of good options with great views of the falls.
Love this place! The selection is great, always new stock showing up. The cafe next door has locally grown food, with a great selection of craft beers.
A fantastic used bookstore, restaurant, cafe, music store and art gallery in a circa 1842 mill, the beautiful building sits right next to a waterfall. The store is big with lots of sitting areas, there's multiple outdoor spots to eat, the coffee is good and the folks are friendly. What's not to like? Do yourself a favor and stop by the spot advertised amusingly as "books you don't need in a place you can't find." I absolutely will go back if I'm in Western Mass. again.
However my sister found a few books at a really reasonable price- it's a hidden gem in i think an old mill. There are 2 great places to eat & it was such a peaceful & wonderful experience. I would love to go back to look around & pick up some books. They are used but in great condition. A large variety of all sorts.
This place is beautiful. The books are inexpensive and the food at the Lady Killigrew is amazing. Their sangria is so good! This is a great place for a date, or for the family to stop in and grab lunch.
Never had a bad meal here, even if just a snack. Great affordable offerings, wonderful ambience and more books than you can ever read. Great place to pass the afternoon when one should be working or doing some work there.
You may not find a book you *need* you will certainly find one that you love! A renovated mill sitting on top of the Sawmill river, the bookstore couldn't have a more idyllic setting. They have a massive selection of fiction, non fiction, poetry, art books etc. etc. and the staff are happy to help you find what you're looking for. The attached restaurant is a lovely place for lunch and serves beer and wine. A must see for anyone visiting the Pioneer Valley.
What a great place! Full of nooks and crannies with some really interesting sections. I visited in October 2013 and fell in love with the place. My girlfriend found a review in Lonely Planet and insisted that we visited as she knew that I loved books and book stores. We had a long drive there and she was getting anxious as she wasn't sure that it would be worth he investment in time. She needn't have been...I loved it! The bookmill is in such a beautiful location and is a place that you can spend hours in.Be warned though...if you are like me (I can't go into a bookstore without buying a stack of books) then you will need to re-arrange your luggage to get a load of books through the airline weight restrictions!
Diverse collection of used books, some new. Friendly folks and nice cafe. Two floors and numerous rooms of every kind of book you can think of. Also, small adjacent area dedicated to CD's and DVD's. Found a couple of nice deals, but the real value is in the browsing. Lovely setting with nearby stream. We visited just past prime foliage, but still beautiful.
Set aside an afternoon to browse the stacks. Bring a book and computer. Sip coffee from the adjacent cafe. Listen to the waterfalls. Browse more books Don't forget your bedroom slippers...you'll definitely want to spend the night!
A must see if you're in the area. A beautiful setting, endless weird used books, records and more. Such a tranquil experience sitting over the river having a great coffee reading some obscure used book. Unique place.
Great used bookstore and cafe built in an old mill along a beautiful river. Makes a great stop even if you don't need any more books, and you may spot one that says you do.
What a great place to spend a weekend morning or afternoon. As you enter the store the wonderful smell of books surrounds you, and all you want to do is just pick a book and sit at one of the windows with the beautiful view of the waterfall and forget about the rest of the world. The store and the cafe are also a great place to have coffee or meal with friends. The service was very friendly and relaxed and the food was good. One more spot in the Pioneer Valley we'll definitely visit again.
I'm a book lover and, although I have my Nook, iPad and other electronic information devices, they simply don't match my love for a real book that I can hold in my hands and keep on a shelf nearby. I regret the demise of many a local bookstore from our communities and so here in Montague I was so pleased to find a wonderful source for second hand books. You can come here to buy or just browse and no one will mind. The Bookmill is not one of those stuffy antiquarian types either. It's down home and down right friendly. The atmosphere is laid back with comfy seating throughout. Some nights you'll even find live local music acts on the second floor. This is a spacious establishment with knowledgeable staff and a variety of interesting choices available. The last time I went with the express purpose of finding just one book that I had been searching for. I went up to the front desk, asked the staff and followed their directions to a second story "shelf on the right of the stairwell" where my book could be found for a very reasonable price and in very good condition. If you love books like I do or are simply interested in finding that book you've been searching for then this is the place to go in the area. You also can't beat those views of the waterfall and the proximity to Lady Killigrew Restaurant and Turn It Up music as well.
