We were fortunate to schedule a fishing/sightseeing trip with Capt Eric and Jan of G'Day Charters, aboard the Sea Duction. We sailed out of her home port of Valdez in early August. We found them to be extraordinarily accommodating to meet our priorities in terms of fishing (75%) and wildlife sightseeing (25%).The boat was comfortable for the four of us; with my hubby and I sleeping in the main stateroom. With the kitchen and bathroom facilities on board, plus the ability to grill out on the back deck. In fact, after our first day out fishing, Capt. Eric filleted and then prepared our fish fry supper while anchored in one of the many protected bays found in the Prince William Sound. The fishing was good . . . and the wildlife viewing and scenic photography were equally good. We had amazing encounters with sea otters, eagles and orcas! We do not hesitate in recommending G'Day Charters for your fishing or sightseeing interests out of Valdez. They also do single day trips, so no need to worry if you don't want to be out for more than a day.
My husband and I live in Alaska, and we are always searching for something a bit different to do. G'day Charters fit this bill. I have been on a lot of boats....and have owned a few, but this is the best boat trip we have ever been on, bar none...What was special? Well the two people who own the boat and the company are wonderful. They fall over themselves to please you....Besides that, the boat is a 38' Mediterranean which is comfortable and roomy. But lots of people have nice boats...What makes this special is the places they take you, the sights that you see, the fish that you catch, and the shrimp pots that you can pull up....yourself.....and then eat them directly from their grill on the deck....Although they do not have a federal license to fish for Halibut, all the others are readily available. I wanted some rockfish because it is my fav fish to eat....and rockfish we got...The views were spectacular. lagoon....Just us, 5 Eagles and 19 goats up on the hill...Oh, and did I mention the Shrimp? I learned how to set a trap.....and then pull it up...We saw beautiful orange starfish...not edible...and had shrimp that were 8" long...It was amazing...There were all kinds of animals to photograph....Otters with pups on their tummy's, and salmon on their tummy's too...Eagles by the score, Goats, whales, 100's of sea lions, seals, and a wolf and coyote on the trip down. The trip down from Anchorage is as long as it is going to Denali..Approximately 6-7 hrs...I think this is much more beautiful scenery, and it is a truly an Alaskan destination...You can go glacier sightseeing for the day, just fishing or a combination of both...
We had an amazing time on G'day Charters. The scenery, wildlife and fishing was fantastic. Our hosts Eric and Jan went out of their way to make sure we had a good time, two very knowledgeable people who explained to us anything we wanted to know. I would highly recommend this charter to anyone wanting an Alaskan experience.
We have done lots of fishing but not in a charter out of Valdez before. Eric was an awesome captain with so much knowledge of the area. Its not just a charter its experiencing Alaska at its finest. He knew where to go for the best fishing and some local history as well. We brought our 10 year old daughter with us and she had the most fun of everyone. Definitely the highest rating we can give...G'Day is the best.
I have lived and fished in Alaska for over 15 years and have taken probably too many fishing charters. Eric and Jan and G'day charters was the most enjoyable charter I have ever been on. They not only find fish but make the entire experience wonderful.
