We were here for the James Burton Festival. I did not know who he was until I came to his seventy fifth birthday celebration. James is a local hero and really nice guy and a famous guitarist who has played with greats like Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley, have you heard of them? If you are not here for the James Burton Festival, research it and come back for it, if you like music you are in for a treat. The Red River District as you might image is down near the river. Some of it is not very pretty or enticing but there is plenty of it that is! There is the glitzy El Dorado casino and the amphitheater and the splash pads and the Texas Street Bridge and all the restaurants under it. If you stay where all the lights are I don't think you will have a problem with the Red River District.
After gambling in the nearby casinos, we stumbled across the Red River District area. It is a series of shop fronts and restaurants lining the walkway under an interstate bridge. There was a band playing in the middle of the walkway. We stopped at a restaurant, bought drinks and snack, and sat ourside relaxing and listening to the music. It was a very pleasant end to our evening.
This started out as a neat place to go until the mayor at the time put a $5 cover on going into the area for anything and that killed it. Then Bossier City built the Boardwalk and this place went downhill. They have tried to revive it but is still somewhat seedy and not a family place. Restaurants start and stop periodically there and it just has none of the family appeal as does the Boardwalk.
This is not an area that you would want to be walking alone. Does not appear to be very safe. We took a brief stroll but did not feel safe at all and turned around and went back to our car.
This area of town has seen better days. It was intended to be a big tourist attraction but unruly local crowds have caused business to go under and threatened the safety of the area after dark. If you choose to visit during the daytime you will find many park benches to rest on while watching small children play in the free water features. That is about the extent of what is good about this area. Go across the river to the Boardwalk for a safe, good, attraction. You'll be glad you did.
the fireworks was awsome as well as the music. Eric and i had a wonderful time. and o my at the people that was there for the entertainent. teh fireworks could have been any better
this place is dead! Boring not much going on, a real dissappointment! It had great potential but it is a epic failure.
You could tell this area was planned to be a nice restaurant/bar area, but it looks like the recession has not been kind. There were more "For Lease" signs than people along this stretch of retail. Even the Police Station appeared to be closed. I was stunned that, on a Friday night, Shreveport didn't have more to offer, especially when - across the river - there was a huge new(ish) shopping center with movies, dining, etc.
A lot of reviews here are talking about the Louisiana Boardwalk on the Bossier side of the Red River. The Red River District has one Mexican restaurant and one bar. It is also very sketchy and I wouldn't be caught here at night. Jump across the texas st. bridge to the Louisiana Boardwalk for an awesome shopping district with good food and a good view of the river.
We really enjoyed walking around and seeing all they had to sell, but really enjoyed walking by the Red River along the walkway.
The Red River District was once a place of weekly live bands, cool daiquiri shops, good food, and great times. Now it's the home of 1 restaurant that closes whenever it wants - Nicky's , and Fatty Arbuckles (a smoker's paradise). Will someone please renovate this joint, our city needs it!
This place is in need of improvments. Not worth trying to find cause other than a bar and a mexican resturant, there is nothing here. Back in the day we were down here every weekend. There were bands and bars and places to eat and a ton of people. Now....... theres nothing
Looks line a well intended plan that did not make it. A lot of the business has closed leaving boarded up buildings. There are a couple of good resturants left.
Holds the Louisiana Boardwalk which is a on the river mall it's selection of stores isn't the best but it's always clean. Also many hotel casinos if your much of a gambler
Very Clean, the sidewalk was big and walking was a pleasure along the river. Everything was close and easily accessible.
