brimstone museum complex

The Brimstone Museum has completed a permanent display of the Frasch Sulphur mining process and a history of the City of Sulphur. It is a very well done display and well worth seeing. This is a great place to bring out of town guests. The entire complex includes The Brimstone Museum, The Henning House with cultural exhibits, and The Grove with its shady walking paths and sitting areas. Coming soon is an historic Sulphur Mines home being moved to the complex.

I was born and raised in this town. Yeah we learned about Sulphur's mining history in grade school but THAT's where it ended. I LOVE history and yearned to learn more about the place I called home all throughout my high school years. Frustratingly, I was always coming up short at the public library. Well, THIS is the place to spend a lovely afternoon. The Exhibits are very up to date and seductively engaging. Each display incorporates cutting-edge technology and large pictoral vintage images of the mining camps and mining village to really bring the town's founders alive! Our 9 year-old son got a kick out of the fun displays and I could've spend hours and hours there putting together lesson plans to share for my classroom unit on Sulphur, Louisiana. Great fun and incredibly & throroughly informative. I will DEFINITELY be back next time I visit. I am so glad my hometown got intelligent and updated this fine testament to Sulphur's contribution to the early 20th Century.

I was amazed to see this beautiful complex in such a small town. I want to thank the citizens of Sulphur for keeping this gem alive. The building looks great. The displays are great, although isnce it is a train station, more displays about trains/railroads would be appropriate. Paved parking, or pavers needed.
