polson-flathead historical museum

I was in Polson to do some book research and had a wonderful time meeting the museum staff and working with director Gay Cochrane. Longtime resident and museum volunteer Dorla Scott even took time out to give a personal tour of the museum. Be sure to set aside time to really get to know the community by visiting this well-kept gem. Thanks for all the help!

We stumbled across this museum while looking for another in the area. A very unpleasant experience. Though the admission was only a few dollars, this business was anything but what you would expect from a museum. There were some Interesting items to look at such as old wagons and numerous items from the early Montana settlers of the 1800's, but just from the perspective of the white settlers only. What shocked us was that the guide immediately begin a very slanted diatribe against the local native population and she seemed to have some real resentment that she wanted to share. We left the museum immediately but wanted to warn others in case they stumbled across it.
