The Mineral Museum is primarily for adults though they are trying to make it more kid friendly. If you enjoy rocks and minerals, you will enjoy the huge array of ordinary, semi-precious and precious minerals such as plain old silver ore all the way to large gold nuggets found in and around Butte and from other parts of the world. I spent an entire afternoon wandering the museum while my husband was elk hunting, totally enjoying the mining history of Butte and the unexpected beauty of the minerals found there. The fluorescing rocks where spectacular and the gentleman/curator was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable.

The day we were there, we had the whole place to ourselves. Excellent collection of gems and minerals from all over the world.

I have loved gems and semi precious stones since I was a boy, my spouse had not interest in this before we went here. Now she is an enthusiast too ! Beautiful huge collection you will likely never see any where else in the World and it is Free but we made a nice donation

I have a degree in geology and my husband worked at a couple mine. I could have spent 3 hours in the small but very attractive museum of mineral specimens! But we only had 1 hour before our scheduled mine tour at the nearby World Mining Museum. Adult family visiting with us seemed engaged for about 45 minutes. The minerals and crystal specimens are highest quality, clean and nicely lit. The fluorescence display is excellent! Interesting and informative video about the history of Butte copper mines.

Walked in as skies grew cloudy. Good place to spend an hour+. If you are into gems/minerals you will love it. Other wise you may think that 1/2 of the display are repeats of what you looked at a minute ago. Do check the seismic sensor and the black light display.

This museum is free and well worth a stop. We enjoyed looking at all of the different types of specimen minerals they have on display. It is close to the Old World Mining Museum so stop here if you go to that museum. Well worth a visit.

We enjoyed exploring around the Montana Tech Campus. The museum is not large, but typical of Montana, it has a very wide range of minerals on display/

It was a fun adventure with the family. The beginning did not look that good, however, when you got inside, you become very involved in what was going on. Having the different stones was awesome, and when you turned off the lights, it was breathtaking. Great place to bring the kiddos.

Has a good collection of minerals, but probably not as good as the Museum of Natural History(NYC) or even the Univ Pittsburgh/Carnegie Museum.Has a small store on same floor with opportunities to buy interesting items. Admission is free.

The school was very clean and we enjoyed the gems and everything they had to offer. We had to use steps to get to the restrooms but it wasnt that bad.

We had some time before our ATV trip and visited the museum. The museum was very interesting and later that day we saw several of the "rocks" in their natural settings.

They rocks are cool! Especially the ones in the blacklight room. They also have a huge chunk of solid gold that is a must see!

An unusual museum, very well done. A nice place to spend a cold morning or afternoon- combine it with trip to Mining Museum. Great place to bring kids who are interested in rocks .

If you enjoy ROCKS and minerals, you will love this museum. It's free--and is located up on the Montana Tech Campus. My daughter and i were there for a couple of hours.....and we could have spent more time without becoming bored with the exhibits. We learn so much about the geography of our town, and it's history. This attraction is well worth your time.

Even if you don't like rocks, this is a worthwhile place to visit. They have a very informational movie that explains all about the area and history. I wish we had done this before visiting the World Museum of Mining to get a little more background information. Beautiful school campus and lovely views of Butte also.
