This is a modern and beautiful farm, and if I was a horse it is the place I would want to be. It's obvious they take really, really good care of their stallions. That being said, the tour itself was almost a waste of time. We still in the middle of the stallion barn aisle for about 15 minutes while an intern who knew nothing about any of the horses stood silently while we tried to see through the stall bars - a big difference from Claiborne where their stallion manager was on hand and introduced some of their most well-behaved horses. I did briefly meet the stallion manager here. He wasn't the most personable guy, but he was polite and mentioned his favorite horse was Distorted Humor because he always did his job without any fuss and was easy to handle.
Very interesting. Beautiful buildings and grounds. Got to feed derby winners peppermints. Very cool. Highly recommend if you like horses.
I was on a group tour of my first Kentucky Horse Farm. This was a great place to have as my first. The staff was very knowledgeable. We were also able to get up close and personal with many of the horses on the property. Well worth it!
It's hard not to be awe struck on The WinStar Farm tour in Versailles KY! For those who follow horse racing on a casual basis or newcomers to the sport, the tour of the farm is breathtaking - green, green grass, white fences, acres and acres, prominent barns, and of course, horses grazing. This time of year there are a lot of mares and foals out in the paddocks. But the most impressive part of the tour is visiting the stallions. It gives you goose bumps to see them up close, feed them a peppermint, and hear their story. It's like being around royalty! I happen to be a Stablemates member (a membership that includes a VIP tour and watching mares foal via camera during the season) which is so worth the membership. The tour will be one of the highlights of my time in Kentucky forever!
WinStar offers a great tour of their stallion complex. If you like horses and want to see them up close, this is the place to visit. But no touching of the horses, stallions may bite! WinStar has many great racing horses. While we were taking the tour, we were lucky that there were customers there viewing potential studs, so we got to see several of the horses be led out to the main viewing area one at a time. The tour is free, but we tipped the tour guide.
