So much interactive fun forLittle kids here! Lots of imaginative play areas and kids of all ages had a great time. Would highly recommend!
Did not visit the museum, because I could not find a place to park.I circled the block several times and found all the metered spaces occupied and every other space designated for other businesses. I just said 'forget it' and moved along to my next destination. Their website needs to reflect the lack of parking and suggestions where to park.
Great little gem here in Ashland Kentucky. Lots of very interesting exhibits and lots of memorabilia from local singers such as Keith Whitley, The Judds, Billy Ray Cyrus and a few other local people. They also have a wonderful tour in the month of October called Dining with the Past. It is a neat and very informative cemetery tour that gives you back stories on each one of the people who are buried in specific spots within the cemetery and what their association with city was when they were living. This is worth checking out. We did this recently and enjoyed it quite a bit. Once the tour is over they give you dinner usually from one of the local eateries.
My mom and I both enjoyed this museum and thought the cost to get in was very reasonable, $5 per person. It had a lot of information on the local country artists from Eastern KY. They also have a new section on space exploration that was well done. The basement area had a number of hands on displays for children. We spent a little over a hour in the museum and enjoyed our time. Great place to check out if you are in the area.
Went on the annual dinner and walking tour of the Ashland Cemetary and found it to be interesting and informative. The tour guide, Jim Epling, was full of knowledge of the locals who were a great part of the history of Ashland, Ky. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know who lived here and what has happened in our past!
The museum is located in what used to be the big department store in Ashland, where my husband grew up, so there is lots of exhibit space and it is very well done. There is a small gift shop inside the museum. My favorite exhibits were the ones showing the history of Highway 23 and country music.
Discovered this hidden gem while looking for something to do after lunch with a friend while in Ashland. Good thing we visited on the day it was open till 4 because we barely had enough time to finish going through it. I enjoyed all of the exhibits from the one on toys to the swimsuit exhibit and all in between. The medical exhibit was particularly interesting to me since I worked in health care. If you like country music, this exhibit is one that you will not want to miss. Since there were no children in our party, the interactive exhibits were not checked out, but there were children there seeming to have a very nice time. Good museum and admission very reasonably priced.
This is truly a hidden gem! The displays are professional, varied with wonderful descriptions. It's hard to believe a small home town museum could have the quality exhibits that Highlsnd consistently enjoy.
This place is on par with most kids museums and not that expensive if you have an hour or two to kill take your kids.
Lots of local (country music) and interactive exhibits. On par with museums in Columbus, Cincy, & Indy. Great for all ages. Awesome location.
Given the budget and "audience" of this museum, I think that they surpass expectations. This is not world-class, by any stretch, but it is a great place to learn about the history of live in the Ohio River value, the founding of Ashland, and the country music heritage of our region. For families with young children, the play/exploration area in the basement is fantastic. There are tons of safe, fun, educational activities for ages toddler to 12 years old. Finally, the gift shop is a fun place to pick up souvenirs if you are in town.
Exhibits run the gambit, so check to see if anything is there you are interested and go if you have the chance.
The musuem puts on exhibits of local interest from time to time. Okay for local school kids, not much else to say about it.
The Highlands Museum & Discovery Center in Ashland, Ky., is a joy for area adults and children. Its hands-on programs for little guys and gals is terrific and a fun place for Moms and Dads to take the little ones for a day of exploration and education. Imagine what a special place this is in a city of less than 25,000!
Nice for a small museum. It had more of a history bend too it then a discovery it seemed to me. It was fun though even for an adult.
