Hosted a 6th bday - i think the parents had as much fun. Kids were engaged and the flow was good . Staff kept everything on pt.
The Cradle of Aviation is an excellent museum to learn about the history of aviation in general and Long Island's aviation heritage. The Exploring Space exhibit is awesome !
I took my 8 and 5 year old grandkids. We had a blast!Guides (maybe volunteers) were knowledgable and seemed to enjoy their task.
I have come to the museum for many imax shows and enjoyed them all. I recommend sitting higher up then the lower seats so you can enjoy the full screen. The museum is great too.
Wow. I learned so much about the Long Island aviation history. Grumman and long island played a huge role. Nice museum. I felt like a kid. I sure will be back
My daughter went a lot. With her class and otherwise. If you have a pass or group discount, it's worth it. Libraries on long island have free passes. Scout troops go at s discount too. They have some interesting programs exhibits. My daughter was interested.
We visited with family members including a four-year old. This is a perfect place for children - lots to see and do, various interactive displays, an exciting flight simulator ride, an impressive number of restored airplanes, memorabilia, and flight-related objects from various eras, IMAX theater, and big gift shop. Easy to spend a few hours here and a great place to go with kids on a wintry day. Many of the dioramas showing early planes and flight-related environments were really excellent; very well done. Why I don't give this 5 stars: 1) food in the cafeteria was close to inedible. 2) Some of the displays are quite tired or not working, especially the interactive ones. 3) They need a well trained museum educator to look at all their text and interpretation. There is a lot to see, but unless you are willing to read a lot of boring text, you will not learn much. How great if they would have had more live educators on hand, an audio tour, or more punchy wall labels and graphics. I'm sure this place costs a lot to run and they have a huge physical plant, but that's where I think they need to improve. Nevertheless, I would recommend this place without hesitation as a family destination. Also nearby is a beautiful carousel, a firefighting museum, and a children's museum. Great family amenities for this part of Long Island.
nothiing to dislike. Did it really well. in fact i plan to go again maybe even tomorrow.Admission prcie is reasonable. large cafeteria for quick bites and plenty of parking.
My 4 years old son and 1,5 daughter both loved it. Plenty of place to climb in, push the buttons and a lot of big displays. Enthusiastic staff explains all kind of things if you are interested.
And get over to the Cradle of Aviation. You will learn so much about the history of flight in a fun and entertaining way. Kids of all ages will love it. Plenty of parking.
We came here as two adults, no kids, as even though I've lived in and then visited this area countless times, I somehow never made it to this museum. In fact, other than knowing that Roosevelt Field was significant to the early trials of air travel, I didn't know much else. This place is very interesting, with so many life-size replicas and actual planes from the very early history of air travel. They also have some things you wouldn't expect like hot air balloon and hang-gliding exhibits. There are tons of placards and walls full of information to go along with the items placed all around. There are also some videos that play on a loop that you can watch. The museum has a large portion dedicated to all things space travel, which again, I had no idea were so connected locally, including the manufacturing of so many NASA related items. There is also a simulator ride which we did not try. We did try the widescreen show, as well as purchasing an extra ticket to a show we thought we'd like to see, however, we were so dizzy after the first show we watched that we didn't stay to watch the second show. I would definitely return as I know I did not see even half of what is on display here, but I would not go to another movie because I think the screen is just too close to the seats. I had been to the IMAX theatre in Boston on plenty of school trips in my past and never had a problem, but I believe those were much larger theatres.
Great museum for young and old. I'd recommend a tour. I happened to listen in on one while walking through and the guides are knowledgeable and Entertaining. There is plenty to interact with to keep the younger kids amused. I live on the Island and was impressed with the museum. Thought I'd have to travel to NYC for an experience like this. Great way to break up a summer week if you get some rain. If you do some searching you can usually find coupons but it's not a bad value either way.
Interesting for both children and adults price a little high but a fun day with lots to see and do for a day of fun for all
There was so much good information and so many terrific interactive exhibits for kids. This is a museum for the whole family. It was a pleasure to spend a day there!
Came here today with my wife for the festival of trees Christmas display. Loved seeing all the trees then walking through some of the exhibits. Can't wait to come back for the regular museum again and for the tattoo show! Gift shop was great!!
