I really enjoyed taking the RR ride. Getting here from Colorado Springs was a hairy drive thru the mountains. We walked around the town and checked out the shops then went west via the long way to get back to Colorado Springs...

The railroad is definitely worth doing once. The trip is short, but it has some great photo ops and interesting facts about the history of the area. Whenever I am in Cripple Creek with out of town guests, I always recommend going on the railroad. I have been on the railroad 4 times with out of town guests, and every time they (and I) enjoy it. I know I will have many more trips on the railroad, as my son is very into trains. As a tip, check google for coupons.

It was a nice little ride up and back, the information was interesting and if I remember right it was not very expensive.

We make sure to take Colorado visitors up to the Creek & this is a don't miss. Have taken the trip & many visitors on this multiple times. Great & knowledgeable employees, a lot of great history & beautiful scenery.

Taking the scenic drive to Cripple Creek we stopped at the visitors center (a good stop) heard the train whistle and decided to follow that whistle! EXCELLENT CHOICE. My first trip on narrow gauge was fun. But the Excellence comes into play with each employee in station and on the train. Being on vacation gives you a chance to step and see people who love their job. Worth every minute and penny.

The train engineers are very knowledgeable and their narration as you travel along the train route was very interesting. Beautiful views and a fun adventure!

Wanted to take my 2 1/2 year old on a train ride. This looked like a great trip. Went on line and it said it was open till mid October. Went on web site that morning it said it was open for 2014 season. We printed a coupon for the ride. Drove the hour to get their only to find they were closed for the season. Maybe the person who runs the place would enjoyed telling his li

It was a very enjoyable ride, I think it was about 45 minutes. The conductor did a great job telling us interesting historical facts about the area. My elderly mom was in a wheelchair and the conductor and his assistant were willing to pick her up in her wheelchair and lift her up the 3 or 4 steps to the open air car but with one of them on each arm, she was able with their help to stand and climb up the steps. I would recommend wearing glasses to keep the particles from the smoke stack out of your eyes when the wind shifts. It was a little pricey as I paid over $56 for 5 people: myself, mom and 3 kids. We were in the first car and maybe 6 feet away from the conductor so it was neat to be able to watch him shovel coal into the roaring fire inside the engine 2 or 3 times during the ride. I felt it was educational for the kids too.

Our conductor shared a lot of interesting information about what we were seeing. There is one open car and one closed car but you cannot move from one to the other during the ride. There are a few stops for photos but you can't get off the train. It was a scenic ride and well worth it, but warn the kids that a coal train will smell so that don't whine about it the whole time like the kids who were sitting next to us.

Last time was almost 15+ years ago, but I recall a very scenic view through the mountains to get there and a good time at the casinos once we did. Appreciate the fact that all of the table games were reasonable in price, so I had a good time without having to empty my coffers.

The city of Cripple Creek was a disappointment to us. It is mostly casino's & the main street was completely torn up. (sure it will be great once project is complete). That being said the train ride was fun! Very relaxing, great scenery & fun little ride.

Road out through the country side - Received much history on the gold mining area - A fun adventure - Be ready to breath in coal smoke and fumes - This brought you back to a time in history of pleasant memories - highly recomend

This was quite informative and relaxing. Be prepared to wait an hour or more by visiting the nearby museums and of course the donkeys. Bring the family!

This is a great little trip. My husband and I and our three chihuahuas went on the ride. The train driver was a great character and made it very enjoyable and informative. I would highly recommend it.

We stayed across the street and decided to go on this train ride! So very glad we did! Our conductor, Dave, was so great to listen too and gave such amazing history on the mines and town. He kept us interested and fun. Even pointed out some deer. It was the perfect length of trip I would recommend this to everyone. The cabin was covered so rain or shine would be fine.
