We have been to two shows at the Gold Bar Room Theater. We had a great experience at both shows. Our favorite show was a couple of years ago when they brought in The Fab Four which is a Beatles review. Most recently, we saw a country singer with his band who was also very good. The theater is small enough that there is banter between the patrons and the performers. The venue is intimate in the best of ways. We will be watching the for the 2015 calendar to pick the performances that appeal the most to us. We cannot wait to go back to the Gold Bar Room Theater!

Intimate theater with a lot of history. Liked the closeness with the audience and the entertainer. All around the room are hats with the signatures of past performers from days gone by.(even heard a rumor that the place is haunted,...but I don't believe in that sort of thing)

Having grown up in CO, my recent visit to Cripple Creek (first time there since legalizing gambling!) was made just a bit more special by my visit to the Gold Bar Room Theater. As I was travelling with my 3 yr old daughter, I contacted George beforehand to ask if it was a child friendly environment. He assured me it would be fine, as the show we were planning on attending was a Beatles tribute band. He even offered to let my daughter into the show for free. Upon arrival, he noticed my daughter running around and immediately welcomed us, remembering who I was from the emails exchanged. He showed us into the theater, and ran off to take care of whatever a theater manager needs to do. A few moments later, he returned with a small souvenir from the band for my daughter. He had told the band we came all the way from Iceland, and they even offered us a free CD! George really went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our visit, even minding his language as there was a child present. Overall, I certainly enjoyed the show, the atmosphere, and most of all George! George, you're awesome!I would definitely recommend popping into this lovely establishment, not only for the show, but for the history and hospitality. The included meal with the dinner and show ticket is also quite nice.

This year we stayed at the imperial Hotel and did not get to visit the Gold Bar Room Theater for a performace. However, our family has three hats in the theater, which means we attended at least five melodramas in a season for each hat. This was the place where the whole family went during the evenings before the casinos. There were meloldramas acted in by college students who were also your waiters/waitresses in the intermission. It was a magical place that the whole family could enjoy. It has been closed for several years since the Mackins sold the hotel, but the new owners have reopened it (at great expense) and I am thrilled. I hope that others will find this venue as charming and entertaining as we have for so many years.

On June 9th, we had been looking forward to spending an evening watching the comedy show at the Imperial Hotel. Unfortunately, the evening was ruined by George at the Theater. The website for the tickets said, “June 9th Dinner/Show tickets are $25.00 Showtime at 7:00 p.m.”. Nowhere did the website or our conversation with George, when we called about the tickets, did it say dinner was not served with the show. Nowhere did it say dinner was served at a different location and a different time. The misunderstanding could have been avoided by simply stating dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. at the Midland Depot restaurant. Show is at 7:00 in the Gold Bar Room Theater. We arrived at the Imperial at 5:30 asked a bartender about the location of the Dinner/Show. We were shown the theater. We arrived back at the Imperial at 6:45 p.m. expecting a dinner/show. We had not eaten since breakfast. When we arrived at the ticket counter, we were told that no food was served in the theater. The ticket lady, called George over. He implied that we were stupid for not knowing that you had to eat at a different time and location. George continued to be condescending, arrogant and belligerent with us. At one point, with his belligerent attitude he offered a $20.00 refund. He never understood that all he had to do was say, “I am sorry about the misunderstanding. I will correct it in the future. Enjoy the evening”. Even the ticket lady was embarrassed by George’s behavior, calling his name during one of his rants. George continued by saying,” I can refuse to serve whom I want.” Basically, if you don’t like it leave. Because of George’s attitude we left and will not be back to another show or your Hotel/Restaurant. The sad part is we just moved to Teller County and had planned on attending the dinner/shows at least once a month. We live locally and planned on spending money at your establishment for years to come. That has all changed because of George.
