This small museum dealing with the ancient history of the region is definitely old school. There is nothing interactive about it. There's not too much reading to do, but it's all rather dry.I would not recommend this place to little kids who are into dinosaurs. There are plenty of dinosaur bones, but I'm not sure a kid under 7 or 8 would even be tall enough to see what's going on in the different glass display cases. I think this museum is really for older kids (or at least taller, more mature kids) and adults who are seriously interested in geology, paleontology, and archeology. The real gem of this museum is the museum director. She was out of her office and in the museum itself, answering our questions, helping us find Trinidad on a regional relief map. She is a great woman who will go out of her way to assist.Since this museum is free (with a donation jar at the end of the self-guided tour), I would recommend folks pop in for at least a short while. Take a look around before you decide if you do or do not like it.
But it was packed full of stuff, the museum is so small the Dinosaur was in the hallway and the T-Rex foot print was outside at the entrance. Your grand children will love it.
The Louden Archaeology Museum is part of the Trinidad State Junior College. It is fabulous for such a little museum. it is full of wonderful pre historic-man artifacts; fossils; arrowheads; petroglyph; cast of dinosaur tracks; and a skelton of a 80 million year old sea reptile. Great place to visit for all ages. Museum is free - donations accepted. Check for times and dates open.
