Great beer and chili! Great service, but be warned that this is not as cozy as other breweries as the size is a huge open former retail space. Always nice people and good beer! Worth the stop.
The review above states it pretty well. When we were there over the weekend (Nov 2014) they had 10 beers available (well 9, but milk stout available on Nitro or CO2). Wife and I split flights so we tried 8 of them. Flights ran $5 (includes 4 tasters) which is a steal. While most were standard styles, all were balanced superbly and excellent. A couple highlights below:Milk Stout - Excellent flavor, I thought this was better on CO2 myself.Pale Ale - Excellent hops presence without being overpowering.Poblano Pepper Amber - The Poblano was definitely the star of the show, but you still get good notes from the Amber. But really, we didn't drink anything that we didn't like/wouldn't do again. On the food side, they have a limited menu but it's made up of primarily local products. Meat is sourced from Scanga Meat company, with cheeses from Jumpin' Good Goat Dairy (both near Buena Vista). We did the meat and cheese plate, generous portion for 2 and we took half of it home with us. Great stuff.I'm really excited that they've brought such a great experience to the Fairplay area and can't wait to try what they come up with next.
Excellent craft beers made on site, and food with a focus on organic and gluten-free, this is a huge positive addition to the mountain community of Fairplay. The brewer/owner is an ex-pat from the Denver area with more than 10 years' experience making beer. With eight beers currently on his list, we chose the amber ale and gave it five stars. Two of his beers have been treated to reduce gluten content - without impacting flavor in any way. The operation appears to be a family affair, with the brewer's very pleasant wife responsible for the food choices. Her emphasis, looking at the pared down menu, e.g., cheese plates, green chili, hot dogs, is on organic and gluten-free items. Her suppliers have been very carefully chosen and the menu items offer a nice complement to the beers. For hikers, geocachers, skiers or sightseers, South Park Brewery is the real thing: a great place to take a break after a day in the mountains.
