detroit lake public beach

Detroit Lakes' city beach is a MUST if you live in the area, or are visiting. Something for everyone, with a Marina for rental to several restaurants, and over a mile of beach to relax at, and the park to plan have a picnic. We always love spending time here, as much as we can.

Nice place for a run trip and to enjoy area.the view surronding the lakes is just amazing .It has many attractions and activities for the kids to do, like paddle-boarding, swimming and eating out.

Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, a long time favorite of those now in their 60's, for Friday Nights at the Pavilion, is now back in vogue for people of all ages. As we sat at Zorbaz Pizza across the street from the main beach, wonderful memories of days of teenage freedom returned. The town has gone to great efforts to demonstrate a clean and serene setting for water activities. The beaches are super clean, the water inviting as the wholesome atmosphere is evident. Growing up in the LAKES district is a wonderful foundation for appreciation of the regions beauty. One item to note........large Fish displays/sculptures throughout the city. They are much like the Hearts in San Francisco. What a grand approach to show off the town. It shows that the citizens appreciate what they have and which to share with those from other states and countries.

The city beach has been a "go to place" since the 1950's, but with all the lake weeds the past few years, was not great for scenery or swimming.The city must have come and cut or killed all the weeds in the shallow water which was nasty when we have been here this past few years.Good job Detroit Lakes for returning your beach to a nicer state

Always love going to the beach in DL!It has many attractions and activities for the kids to do, like paddle-boarding, swimming and eating out.

This one mile long [the longest in Minnesota] public beach and walking path allows anyone and everyone the type of access and vista that in many other locations might require staying in private beachfront property. That the other side of the lakefront boulevard is lined with restaurants, shops, and lodging, only adds to the wide variety of activities available and the decidedly "resort town" vibe.We took two long summer evening walks here - and then went across the street for frozen yogurt. Ahh! Summer in northern Minnesota!

Would have been a nice little family beach area except the DL PD apparently has no problem with boats in the small swimming area. Very Dangerous! Wasted trip!

Great beach and water sport activities. The wait staff and beach services were fantastic, the front desk people were very friendly, our friend flew his plane right to the hotel and the restaruant was a great value. Must try the omlets.

Clean up after your dogs people. I was pretty bothered by the state of the grassy area above the beach. Lots of dog poop. The city either needs to invest in some bag stations for pet owners or a cleanup crew. The beach was pretty clear and clean with lots of families enjoying the area.

The City Beach area is a nice place to walk along the Lake and picnic in the Park and spend some relaxing time just hanging out. Watch for Farmer's Markets dates held there.

Even on a blustery morning the beach was hopping. Zoomba class going on and people all around due to Triathalon that morning. Just watch where you walk....lots of presents from all the geese around.

I used to come here as a teenager and hadn't visited in years. I brought my teenage daughter to DL and we hung out at the beach. Fun people, great people watching, free parking.....nice way to spend an afternoon. The area hasn't changed drastically since I was a kid and that was quite nice. In the old days it used to get very busy on weekend days (we were there on a Thursday) so there wasn't much of a crowd.

It was great! Go early, stay for the day! Hit Zorbas on the way out! The water was just warm enough, clean and clear...made swimming perfect!
