I've enjoyed southern star beers for a while now but this was my first trip to the brewery. Saturday is a good day to go because your first beer is free, subsequent beers are $3-$4. There is a hot dog stand that is there during tour days that has a wide selection of dogs. The staff that was there was super friendly. It is currently a transformed warehouse but they have broken ground on a brand new brewery which will be nice when it opens. Great place to relax for a few hours and enjoy some good local beer.

The only thing that Southern Star is lacking is air conditioning! However, our visit this past Labor Day weekend was surprisingly comfortable despite the 90 degree + temps. The tap room is essentially a warehouse with large overhead fans and European-style (shared) tables/benches for sitting. On the north wall is a list of merchandise (shirts, koozies, etc.) for purchase as well as stacks of board games for borrowing, and the south wall is made entirely out of pallets of beer! Your first beer is free. I believe this is regardless of whether or not you attend the tour. They simply stamp your hand with "you've been served!" to designate that you've already received for freebie. We did not attend the tour, which was located in the warehouse next door (if you've seen one brewery tour, you've seen them all, I think), but our first beers were free nonetheless. I was also offered a second free beer from a very nice (& cute!) employee. Finally, some creep offered to buy me a 3rd because I was wearing a Red Sox shirt. What? Oh well, free again! And, if that's not enough, we had 2 free pint coupons to redeem that we had received from another nice employee while attending the Southern Star pint night at Gingerman Houston a few weeks before. Since we already had been given so much for gratis, we decided to hold onto those until our next visit. 3.5 hours and 7 beers later, our tab came to just $7. Anyway, after your first free beer, the rest of the beers are priced at $3 or $4 per pint, or you could purchase a four flight for $7, I believe. Awesome prices here considering the excellent quality of beer and the fact that you're supporting a cool local business. During our visit we sampled the Bombshell Blonde and the PIne Belt Pale Ale, both of which we have had many times before, as well as the Valkyrie, Walloon and the Buried Hatchet Stout. We enjoyed all of our newfound varieties, but the stout was absolutely amazing, and I am not usually a stout fan, especially on a hot summer day. During our visit we also purchased two hot dogs from the Oh My Darling hot dog stand that was set up inside the tap room. We had the PBJ (Asian peanut sauce + jalapeno jelly - PHENOMENAL) for $3 and a spicy sauerkraut (I can't recall all the ingredients since i scarfed it down too quickly) with a beer brat (versus standard beef dog) for $4. They were huge and we could have easily shared one for an afternoon snack, but we couldn't decide between all the creative flavors that were obviously lovingly crafted by the CUTEST older married couple. These were some of the best hot dogs I have ever had, and they paired perfectly with our brews. During our few hours we were at the brewery, we made several friends. There is really an easygoing, laid back vibe here. No need to get dressed up or make a big to-do about spending an afternoon/evening here, just come as you are. You're also able to bring any additional games and food to snack on, and even your pooch, provided s/he is well behaved and leashed. In sum: good beer. good people, good prices, and dog friendly - what more could you ever want?! Don't forget to tip the hardworking servers! Will be back very soon.

Went here for the 1st time last Saturday. Never tried their beer. Several different ones to try, but if you are just into the miller and coors lights and buds, then these are not for you. Very family friendly. Food vendor on site, at least on this day. If you are into handcrafted beers, this is a place to try out. Good hrs, open until 10pm, Sat only.

The Southern Star Brewery has a small staff- but they are great people and will answer all your questions on how they brew the beer. You first pint is free- on Saturday they even have a free tour at 2 pm and your can see the entire process from start to finish. There is no AC inside the beer hall- the beer is cold and you are treated like family, but it's an open area with long tables. The bottom line- it's free- but even it there was still a charge- it's worth a visit- you'll enjoy it.
