We entered the tasting room to be greeted by a beautiful lady who was the hostess; probably the first time we've seen this type of service in a VA winery... we found it very nice and impressive! We've had other wineries that greet you as you enter, with a ticket taker and/or cash register, only to sell you the tasting experience. It was nice to have someone greet you and find an open spot at the bar versus having to fight to find a spot in a crowded tasting room. The staff, everyone we encountered were VERY friendly, personable and explained many things, like creation of the wine, their polo events, etc. It was refreshing to have staff take their time rather than feel rushed when attending to patrons. The grounds and tasting room were all beautiful! All of the wines tasted quite nice to us, we really enjoyed the process in which they barrel ferment their chardonnay. We were happy to buy a couple of bottles and would have bought more, had they been able to let us taste the cab franc too (hint, let your customer taste everything you sell!!)We definitely look forward to going back, especially on a beautiful, sunny day when we can sit outside and enjoy the beauty of the area, along with a nice wine to sip on amongst a group of friends and family!
They have lots of room to sit and enjoy your wine -- both indoors and outside. The grounds are quite large so you'll have plenty of space to walk around on a lovely day. Your tasting includes 6 wines, all very good. I would recommend this winery as part of your Charlottesville winery trip!
This is one of the better wineries in VA to visit. It's a beautiful facility, with beautiful grounds and an amazing view of the mountains. They have a decent variety of wine, which tasted pretty good. And the bonus of the whole deal is that they have a horse polo field behind the winery, where they play on Sundays.
For $8, you sample 6 wines and keep the glass. We bought 2 of the 6 to bring home- the Croset rose and the vigoniere. The tasting room provides well informed servers and offers cheese, chocolate and crusty bread to cleanse the palate. This is great for family gatherings, bridal showers, or weddings. Polo matches take place in view of the ample outdoor patio, in season.
We were there for a family wedding in February. What a fabulous spot. The grounds and facilities were gorgeous. The wine was great and the food was delicious.
Friendly knowledgeable servers. Good prices for high quality Virginia wines. The tasting room is a fun place to taste and enjoy the wines and to spend some time relaxing.
We really enjoyed the fireplace on the chilly day we visited. The server was knowledgeable with many pairing recommendations. Beautiful grounds which include a polo field. We plan on coming back over the summer to catch a match.
We started our day here (after having done our previous two tours in Napa) and it was a great choice (thank you Monticello Wine Tour and Coach) - the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable (a husband and wife) and she explained details to our recently turned 21 year olds. We enjoyed the tasting and bought a bottle of the Cab Franc - really liked the flavor and expect it to get even better over the next year or two. In addition, we tasted their vinegar and it was great. I would definitely recommend King Family and hope to get back when they have a Polo match going on there next summer!
This was a recommendation from a friend and we found it to be a very personable venue. The wines were quite nice but not exceptional. The venue sports a polo field and this is a great bonus if visiting when matches are held. The scenery is beautiful, the people friendly and wines very good for the region.
We went as part of our stay at Arcady B&B and enjoyed it. I have been several times and it seems that Kim us always pouring for us. She is awesome and really helps you understand the wines! I always get some Seven- love a port and this doesn't disappoint. Even in the rain the venue is beautiful, the wines are great the people are wonderful. Thanks, James and Kim, for making my weekend special. Always walk out with a bottle or two and today I got myself a shirt to show off my love of the King Family and their wines.
We visited with a group of friends and enjoyed wine and our own food on their spacious outdoor seating area. We were slightly shocked at the price of the two bottles we purchased but after tasting, we understood the price. Worth the visit!
King Family Vineyards is a wonderful, kid friendly place. Great wine, great views, and great people!
I went with friends for v a wine tasting. The setting is classic central Virginia farm country. It is well signed and easy to get to. The tasting room can accomodate groups of many sizes. The staff is knowledgeable, but not pushy. The wines, red and white are smooth.
Really great wines, the grounds are beautiful. I wish polo was still "in season" i'm sure it would have been fun to watch. I will stop here again.
We lucked out and visited at very end of day on a weekday so again, undivided attention. Enjoyed the wines but the purchase we made was actually a Petite Verdot we didnt even get to taste as a gift for the hubs brother (our host) as a thank you. He was excited when presented with it! Grounds are lovely, staff professional and friendly.
