In the summer it is impressive the variety of Southeast Asian vegetables sold by locals. There is plenty of parking at the lots neighboring the market.

We stopped by the City Market on a Saturday in early November. Many of the vendors were not out due to it being off season, however there was still lots of stands open in addition to the weekly flea market/garage sale. The market itself was very nice, with permanent booths/vendors. It had all the basics in addition to a lot of rare stuff that you can't find at the local grocery, such as a spice vendor!! There were also some very unique things like extremely large pumpkins (4ft tall...), salsas and so on. We didn't stop in any of the food places but all looked and smelled really good. If you are looking for something to do one morning before heading out for the day I suggest stopping by this market. Its suppose to be one of the biggest in the mid-west!

We happened on the market when they were having a flea market, so we got to view numerous local curiosities as well as produce. The produce was very nice and prices were excellent. We ate a Brazilian restaurant which was very good. Great place to visit and enjoy the Kansas City atmosphere.

We frequent the city market every time we are in town. the produce is extremely reasonable and the spices for sale there (2 different booths) are pennies on the dollar as compared to the grocery store prices. there are several other things to do here and but the spices and produce are what makes this thing the heat.... Lots of indian grocery as well as some more international things. Pretty cool floral section too.

My friend lives a block from the Market, so we walked there while I was in town. We got a coffee from the coffee shop and started walking around. I go to Farmer's Markets just about any city I visit, and this had the best selection and variety I've ever seen. Produce, spices, honey, etc. were very affordable, and it's great to support local farmers. If I lived in KC, this is where ALL my fresh food would come from.

Any time we are in or near KC we will make a point to coming here. Just about anything you may want is here. We get spices aat awesome prices. Fresh produce, fresh flowers and the Italian store in the corner is simply incredible. Not your typical farmers market. Better and then throw in a flea market both open 7 days a week. Awesomeness!!!

A terrific array of vendors in the Farmers' Market provide a wide range of fresh fruits, vegetables, and some baked goods. The booths are well laid out and one doesn't feel pushed even though there are a large number of people there. The street musicians lend a nice touch of atmosphere. There are a number of restaurants there that provide very good lunches at reasonable prices. The small permanent shops have a wide range of products for sale. It's a fun way to spend a Saturday morning.

My friends and I had a lot of fun here. There's a ton of food from all around the world. The Indian food was delicious. There's a ton of fresh fruit and veggies. I wish I could have brought more home.

This is one of the best farmers’ markets I’ve ever been to. The variety was incredible. We were able to pick up all the staples for a picnic dinner with very little trouble and the prices seemed quite reasonable. I also loved the diversity of the crowd. It really felt like a cross-section of the city!

What a difference a season makes! We first visited Kansas City’s City Market last December. While the merchants were open for business, there were only a few vendors on site in the farmer’s market section. We did meet the owner of Little Bill’s and bought some great pimento cheese spread. Our eldest daughter swears by it. She wanted a couple of containers from our recent visit. During the warm months, the merchants opened up the windows in front of their stores and were selling to visitors outdoors. The Farmer’s Market was bustling. We again made our stop at Little Bill’s and picked up cheese for our daughter and ourselves. We also checked out homemade bakery items from Bauman Farms in Kansas. The carrot cake was delicious. Florists had a nice row of fresh smelling flowers available. The merchants were very busy, too.We checked out a few of the fruit and vegetable stands. They were packed with customers. I overheard one guy telling another he couldn’t guarantee the grapes they bought would still be around once the second person returned from checking out another stand. We stood in line for about 15 minutes to get a couple of scoops of spices at the Al Habashi Market. The guy has to be extremely popular. He had quite the line when we got there, and it only grew as we waited for our chance to place an order. You can tell he loves what he does. He smiles a lot and jokes with customers. He has a shtick in filling up baggies with spices. His scoops are generous. He drops the scoop back into the container from a few inches above as he moves on to the next spice to fill. I found his hands fascinating to watch as he worked. They had spice colors on them, and they moved quickly from one spot to another as he completed customers’ orders. He’d tell people stopping by ahead of the line where the line started. I just waited for him to tell people “No spice for you!” as a take of the old “Seinfeld” Soup Nazi guy. Al Habashi Market is part of Habashi House Middle Eastern cuisine restaurant. Besides merchants and farmer’s market vendors, City Market is home to artists.A high school show choir performed a few songs.A guy played his guitar while visitors strolled by. Others played violins, flutes and drums. We met a couple of artists painting the KC skyline and the market place. All in all, City Market was what we thought it would be this time of the year. It was a fun experience for a little shopping and a lot of people watching.Whether it is in your area, or in KC, check out area farmer markets. They are worth the trip. But, when in Kansas City, ensure you check out the City Market. There’s a reason the area has been hopping since the late 1850s.

This is a world class market, with great vendors and prices. I would recommend it to anyone within an hour's drive on a Saturday morning. I will definitely be back the next time we visit KC in the summer.

I live in a small city so I've got some culture shock when it comes to big farmers markets like this, but I LOVED it! We went on a Saturday and there were so many people and so much going on- tons of produce, baked goods, lots of other vendors with crafts, a library book sale, little train/wagon rides for the kids, and a garage sale-type area behind it. There were spice vendors, tea vendors, and international foods. It was overwhelming, but in a good way! We got there around lunch time and there was still so much happening and the vendors still had lots of their products. We had strollers with us but it wasn't really a problem pushing them through the crowds. I just wish we would have had more time to look around, but the babies wouldn't have it.We had banana-nutella crepes and boba tea at Lollicup - can the world get any more amazing? Again - small town - I can't find either of those things within at least 30 mile radius of where I live! And they were both delicious. The Steamboat Arabia museum is there but we didn't go in. There are also a couple of Asian supermarkets really close by.I would compare this market with Pike's Place in Seattle. It is not as big but still has a great variety of items. I will DEFINITELY come here again next time I am in Kansas City, and I can't wait to see how the produce changes with the seasons as it will be November next time. The only issue is parking - all I can say is good luck! People pretty much park wherever they can find a spot, and ours happened to be in the back of an abandoned tomato factory plant!
