A great little museum about a man who grew up in South Haven. A world renown writer from the early 1900's. His writing's are still relevant and influential today. Wonderful gardens and a great library.
This museum is located at the National Historic Site that was the birthplace and childhood home of “America’s Father of Modern Horticulture,” the farmer-philosopher and educational pioneer Liberty Hyde Bailey (1858-1954), in South Haven, Michigan. Once the homestead of the first commercial fruit orchard in the South Haven area during Bailey’s childhood years, the property now serves as the nexus for a historical museum dedicated to Bailey’s life and work, a collection of horticultural gardens showcasing some of Bailey’s major contributions to the study of cultivated plants, a nature trail that winds through a precious stand of trees in the midst of the City of South Haven, and an educational outreach hub that serves South Haven’s school children through the multi-faceted Bailey Outdoor Learning Initiative. This is also one of the oldest homes in South Haven.
