Gifford Pinchot was an American forester and politician. Pinchot served as the first Chief of the United States Forest Service, appointed by Teddy Roosevelt from 1905 until 1910, and was the 28th Governor of Pennsylvania. The Pinchot family continues to strive and bring awareness to forest conservation and fresh water protection. The amazing mansion is quite modest for such wealth and the Finger Bowl pool, used by so many famous people still haunts the senses. These were highly intelligent and public service oriented people, still are . The grounds are awesome , even the little cemetery is interesting .. A peaceful experience for certain . Well done Pinchot family , well done. The Bait Box is exceptional.

If you've got the time and can stop here for a tour, or just to wander the grounds on your own, make sure you do. You won't be disappointed. It was a hot day, and my wife and I spent a couple of hours ambling around the grounds and along the paths in the woods. We didn't time it right for a tour, but heard only great things from those who did take tours. This is the summer home of Gifford Pinchot and his familiy. He is a notable historical figure credited with creating the US Forestry Service.

Not only is Grey Towers beautiful, it's so peaceful. The grounds are impeccably maintained, and the scenery is breathtaking. The tour guides are well versed in the history of Grey Towers, it makes the tour so interesting with stories of those who lived there, and events, Grey Towers is hidden, but should not be missed. It's truly a treat.

Run by the US Forestry Service, this house and grounds are amazing to tour. The Pinchot Family has an amazing historical background - and this was their summer home. Credit the Pinchots for creating the USFS...and be sure to take a tour of the inside of this stone mansion.

A piece of history that we never knew existed! JFK visited the governor here and the pictures and video tour of the property and background of the governor and his wife are very interesting and informative. So many things to look at on the property and we didn't even go inside!

Grey Towers is a really nice historic site in Milford, PA. It is on really nice grounds and has som much history to learn. It is 5 minutes from Milford. It is best to visit in the summer when it is warm. Most of the site is outside so you don't want it to be to cold.

Built in 1886 and the ancestral home of Gilford Pinchot, the first Chief of the U.S. Forestry Service, Grey Towers is a wonderful destination for those who love history,architecture, landscaping, horticulture or just enjoying a great day in nature. The house tour is $8 adults, $7 seniors, $5 12-17 and free under 12. The tours on the weekends are on the hour from 11-4. In addition to the house tour you can walk the landscaped grounds with magnificent views of the Pennsylvania mountains and forests from atop. There is a Tree Trail and Forest Discovery Trail complete with map and placards naming each of 30 native trees. It was wonderful for a nerd like myself. Did you know Brad Pitt has a tattoo with the number 304. 304 is the height of the "General Sherman" a massive sequoia. On the name placards there is a QR code. Download a free QR code on your smart phone and by scanning the placard QR code you can access complete information and photos of the tree. The large parking lot is about 600 feet from the home but they have handicapped parking adjacent to the building. There is also a drop-off option if the handicapped spots are taken. The village of Milford, Pa. is charming with shops and restaurants. The destination makes for a nice day out. The historical association claims to have the flag assassinated Lincoln was wrapped in. Pretty cool.

The tree lined entrance to Grey Towers is like going back in time. It is the ideal way to spend an afternoon strolling the grounds, having a picnic and taking a guided tour of the Mansion. Christmas time the Main House is decorated by the Local Garden Club with Victorian ornaments and all three floors are available to be toured. I have been going to Grey Towers for over 50 years and I love it more and more each visit!!

I decided to go on a Christmas tour of the mansion. It was ok. I am glad I went as I believe in supporting conservation and The National Park Service. The fee is very affordable for families. There is also a collection box located in the mansion for additional donations. Both my Mother and I made sure we contributed. I am hoping to come back and visit either in the spring or fall as I am sure the grounds will be a lot nicer and a lot warmer! I definitely recommend visiting.

The phenomenal Pinchot estate in MIlford, PA is a true gem. Tour the grounds and hike the areas around the estate and you will quickly understand why the forest service was born here.

This little gem is a wonderfully maintained chateau, managed by the National Park Service that details the history of the beginning of the conservation movement. It is in the lovely and historic town of Milford, PA. Worth a visit!

The grounds at Grey Towers are unique and beautiful. Taking a tour of the mansion is worth the time and money. There is a surprising amount of history here. This is one of my go to activities when out of town visitors are looking for something to do.

We went over on Halloween evening having pre-purchased tickets fro the Edgar Allen Poe reading. The performance was excellent. While waiting for the performance, the Forestry Service employee there in the evening held a nifty trivia contest. The reading was held in the Great Hall where the Pinchot family often did the very similar thing. The walkway up from the parking are was decorated with elaborately carved Jack-O-Lanterns. We enjoyed it so much we are going back for the reading of Dicken's "A Christmas Carol." As we did not tour the grounds or house at this time, about an hour and a half was sufficient for entering the hall and listening to the reading.

This was an exciting visit to Grey Towers. This festival educates adults and children alike as to the different types of trees, animal life, and products that are made from wood. They have different artists displaying their wares, as well as their talents! You are shown the actual process of some of the works shown, and if you have any questions, they are more than happy to comply. This is a must see event which will thrill the entire family. Who's know it may even inspire you to take up woodworking as a hobby.

Grey towers is a nice place to visit, especially during the Christmas season. We also like going to the Festival of Wood to check out the different vendors.
