Rather chilly and austere this time of year but striking in it's balance and positioning. We are sorry to have missed the Cherry Blossoms that are just weeks away but glad for the relatively uncrowded spaces and museums. A good trade off. Be sure to get the parking app for your phone if you choose to drive around town. Very convenient and saved us a lot of moving of the car.

Fences, scaffolding and backhoes everywhere. We were able to walk around and see everything ok but don't expect it to look like in the movies.

we enjoyed the Mall, it is a great sight to see all of the monuments and the park service does a wonderful job taking care of the property. It is not a short walk, you should make sure you are wearing comfortable foot wear as the mall is over a mile from end to end.

I visited the national Mall on 4 March 2015. It was a rainy day with hailstorm. So naturally my visit was limited the museum. The mall was wet and plants and tree were barren. I visited the Indian museum for a long time. It was OK, but most of the artifacts seemed to be made up recently. They could have collected historical artifacts from real sites and preserve them rather making something even in 2005. I walked all the way to china town in 6th st from the mall. I was touring by my self so I have missed many things , no doubts.

The National Mall is an incredibly amazing place full of history, art and fun. Geographically it is a very large area; if you have the time- go to the Air and Space Museum, The Museum of American History and The Museum of Natural History (not to mention a tour of Capitol Hill). There are bikes you can rent around Washington- one stop is right at the Smithsonian Metro Stop. You can bike all around on a nice day- its not too far and it is just so beautiful! (Especially with the cherry blossoms in bloom in the mid/end of March I've heard!)

The best time of year to visit our nation's Capital in my opinion is late September when school is back in session and the crowds are low. The humidity is gone for the season and you can make your way around all of the monuments without becoming exhausted from the heat of the day. Your days are still long before daylight savings. All of the trees and still full and green. The next best time to visit is in mid May between all the spring break school groups and June summer crowds. This is a colorful season and just a little warmer than September. Please come visit!

Best part about the mall is that everything is FREE. You can easily walk to all the museums and attractions. It's well designed and pretty! Bring your camera! It's cool to see all the people going about their business in the government buildings. The metro is also easily accessible.

I walked from my hotel to the White House. Then continued to walk the National Mall. It's a long walk but it was a nice day out and the sense of history is awesome. Also the views and monuments make it worth doing.
