The club has rebounded well with new management and staff. The food is great quality, the atmosphere wonderful and the price appropriate.
First time playing here. Very nice place. They even had "key codes" for the bathrooms on the golf course! (never saw that before) Greens were slick (very fast). Beautiful views of the lake (we played the Lake course).
The food at CTCC is outstanding. We've never had a good meal; they've always been great. That said, access is rather limited. As residents of CT, one must commit to spending more than $50 every month, plus membership fees. While I realize that the new company that has taken over the club is there to make money, they need to realize that not everyone has the time to go out to eat regularly, and might prefer to spend the time at home, eating with family. I firmly believe they could open up their dining room to all residents of CT (without membership fees) on a reservation basis, and still make a significant amount of money based strictly on their reputation for food and service. If a fee must be charged, it should be for non-CT customers. Just my opinion.
When you are in this area on a golf trip I would definitely recommend playing one or both courses at Carolina Trace. They are beautiful, well kept and very challenging. We played there in wet conditions this Spring and my score suffered because of it but would highly recommend playing golf here.
Played here last week. Impressions: 1) staff was very cordial and helpful, 2) bar patrons were members and very friendly, 3) play the creek course. We played the lake course which is nice, but a few holes have that muni course feel. We started the creek course, didn't finish. We drove thru the remaining holes on way back. Looked great!! I will definitely be back.
Played 36 holes with my buddies with lunch upstairs between rounds. PLayed the creek course in the morning. This is very playable and not as tight as the website pictures. The greens on this course are not as good as the lake course. Played lake course after lunch. A very good layout with exceptional greens. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was great and reasonably priced. Will play this again.
We went to visit friends who recently moved from San Diego to The Trace Country Club in Sanford North Carolina. Played both courses. I found out from friends that the boutique company Escallante bought the country club and plan to do renovations. You feel like you are driving into a compound with a big lake, people kayaking, golfing, a complete resort. Gated entrance with your name having to be with the guard to get in. The remodel of the country club is beautiful, stately and fits right into the Southern ambiance and Charm the south has to offer. Both golf courses were terrific with the lake course being more forgiving and beautiful views. Staying with friends is great but the "compound" needs an inn, hotel or rental homes as it has the opportunity to be a point destination like La Costa in California. Simply peaceful.
My wife and I had a wonderful time at Carolina trace. We played two rounds, the staff were friendly and very helpful. I'd recommend taking the time to experience this top notch golf facility.
Professional staff … two courses, nice design, plenty of water/ elevation changes/ hole shape … well worth playing
With full disclosure up front...I am a resident of Carolina Trace and a member of this club. That having been said, I will add that the atmosphere, quality of food, and service at this club is as good a what I have found in qny other, similar club, and superior to most. I'm not sure what value Trip Advisor rating have for a facility that is basically private, but I share this for whatever use it might be to you.
CT is one of those places you must experience to believe. Two totally different courses, reasonable fees, nice people, pleasant surroundings. If you are looking for a place that will challenge your golf skills, but still make you happy you tried, this is the place
A friend of ours recently passed away and my wife secured the use of the great hall to hold a memorial service. The staff followed the directions well. The deceased had expressed his wishes for his memorial and the staff fully cooperated and helped make it happen. We had many compliments on how fitting the hall was in meeting his wishes and in a fashion with which he would have been pleased. The only complaint we have is with the lack of knowledge on the sound system. The Club advertises a state of the art sound system but the coordinator and staff on duty during the event knew very little about the system. I had called several days before hand to see if the system could play music CDs in the mp3 format and did it have random play capability. The response was, "I think so", with no offer to find out. I prepared the music is several formats to be sure we could play some of his favorites. Upon arrival the person in charge was the bar tender and she said she knew little about the system. Together we figured it out and played the background music as we had desired. When paying more than several thousand dollars to use a facility for a few hours I expect more knowledge about its equipment and an effort find answers to specific questions.
First, I am an 8 handicap golfer, Trace has two Robert Trent Jones Senior designed courses. The Creek Course has narrow fairways and small greens, very challenging track. The Lake Coarse has larger fairways and greens, still very challenging. It is smart to play with a member as course knowledge is crucial. Bermuda grass makes playing by somebody from Washington State diffilcult, it takes a little to get used to. The members are exceptional Gentlemen and enjoyable to play with. Everybody at the course was polite and helpful in every way. The Greens fees are reasonable. The course has a driving range and putting green, with full amenities. I will play Trace anytime I am in North Carolina. Thanks for a great time! Jim
Looking for great golf - two challenging courses. If you come to the club to dine or for special events, the food is delicious, the venue is inviting, and the staff makes every effort to ensure that everyone is pleased with the food and service, and if not they will do what it takes to make it right,.You can not go wrong here!
I'm a little biased, since I live in CT. That said, the food quality and service cannot be beat. Quantity is just right. The staff goes out of their way to ensure the customer is pleased with the meal. It's a little expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. The special events are unforgettable.
