Old Sacramento's history can be found in this charming little museum. Admission is $6 so don't expect an all day ordeal. My son and I got through the entire museum in about 45 minutes, but it is so worth it. There are exhibits of gold mining, printing presses and lots of nostalgic western days in Old Sacramento and when everyone came for the gold rush. Charming book has hand-written jail record and it's very cool to see. You will enjoy it. Take the time.

This is a typical american smalltown zoo with some interesting species, but some enclosures are run down. If you are getting close to Oakland, San Diego or San Francisco viait their zoo instead

We enjoyed our visit. The museum covered a lot of California history but was geared towards Sacramento as you might expect. There were a number of very interesting displays and we could have spent a lot more time there but we were running a little late and had to get moving. $6 for admission was very good.

This museum has a great variety of history, including the printing press, gold mining, WWII internment camps, food production, etc. Each topic has great visual representations and written historical info. The location is great, right by the river in Old Sac. Well worth the time and money.

With its location in Old Town, the Sacramento History Museum is a very interesting place to visit. I enjoyed thoroughly the 20 minute or so film they have there called: Rising Above: Building the Indomitable City. It was fascinating to hear how they dealt with the floods and the rivalry with San Francisco to be the capitol city of California. There are various exhibits on this multi floor museum. Admission price is very reasonable. We parked at the multi-story parking lot across from the Railroad Museum.

The museum had very nice displays although laid out a little awkwardly. We kept getting on the wrong end of a display. There was a really nice display on gold mining. Don't bother with the underground tour. Felt more like we were in the basement.

Museum is in a great location in Old Sacramento with plenty of parking within walking distance. Museum is reasonably priced ($6) and has a lot of very well done displays. We messed up and went backwards in one area, so make sure you're going the right way. There's a long display about a trial and if you start on the wrong end, you'll be confused about it.

visited Old Town Sacramento and stopped at the State Train Museam. Wow was it worth it. Learned a ton about the history of the west and saw some excellent train engines some of the very first used out wrst in tbe intercontinental railway construction. Trains and the west are intertwined in history. Well woth the visit.

While waiting for the tour to begin we had a brief look look in the museum: looked we'll laid out and informative, although not to our 13-year-olds taste who lacks attention. The walking tour was excellent with an informative and friendly guide. She also tried to minimise standing in the extreme heat which the town was experiencing, and engaged the children taking the tour into the experience. It was also just the right length without a great deal of walking. Learnt a great deal about life when the town begun and the extreme flooding.

I like museums that leave you with a comprehensive understanding of the history and major events of the area. This one absolutely does. Very well done. We enjoyed it immensely. You can take as little or as long as you would like. Great information about the gold rush and a lot of little known facts. Totally worth our time.

The museum exhibits emphasize Sacramento history. There is an exhibit of an old printing press from the Sacraamento Bee. There is a video that shows Sacramento over the last 150 years. (my 82 year old other appreciated this video because it gave her chance to sit down and rest) Including some great floods that plagued the city before the city literally built up the downtown area. This is particularly interesting because you can walk throughout Old Sacramento and quickly see how much lower than the city streets used to be. One of my favorite exhibits is one that shows a series of gold nuggets. Another interesting exhibit shows

I took my grandchildren ages 8 and 3. We enjoyed I visit very much. The children were kept interested by so many different items to look at but they especially loved looking at the gold nuggets. They have an activity area for the kids and a cute gift shop.

Loved this museum. Excellent value. Packed with great stories and information. Very kid friendly. The staff is the best. The girls in the front are super knowledgeable.

We visited this museum on a day trip to Old Sacramento. We're from out of town and found this interesting. We didn't spend much time in here, though. There's a lot of reading to do, and the artifact collection, while decent, isn't huge. It's average. We started going through this backwards. Nothing/No one told us to start on the third floor and work our way down. So half way through we ended up walking to the end and starting over. It's only six bucks for an cult, so no harm here. It was still informative. If you're trying to chose between this and the train museum, do the train museum.

Old Town Sacrmento may not have good restaurants (no Chinese restaurants or Japanese restaurants), but they do have great museums! One is the Sacramento History Museum, I say twenty minute walk to thirty minute walk from Sheraton Grand Sacramento! They had a box where you can send post cards and Christmas cards! Just add your own stamp! Obviously, Sheraton.com post cards come one hundred (so they say) in the wrap, they give because they know I use all one hundred! Says leave at the desk they will pay the postage! Obviously, went to post office, buy my own stamps, sent bunch by Pony Express! Some I drew teh animals, sent to Sheraton, others I sent to different Food Banks out of town, out of state! Even sent one to the Navy man from New York, he came home June! The Pony Express people came about 3:30 p.m. on December 21, 2013! That was nice! Just like the actual days, they came in on their horses! That was a pleasant experience! North Pole Salvation Army wrote, say they received two, plus they sent me Animal Postcards of their state!
