The best place to watch track and field in the US. Close to the action and knowledgeable fans. Home to major US and international meets?
Simply majestic..rich in history and achievements ....even on a non-event day, the stands are filled with cheering crowd...if you get a chance take a lap and break through that winner's ribbon.. a must pilgrimage for any track & field aficionado...
I have visited Hayward dozens of times (I went to law school across the street) and attended meets big and small at this wonderful home of American track and field. It's so rare to find a track dedicated to track in the US. That is its sole purpose. Beautiful and historic grandstands, one of the finest tracks in the world, fine scenery and all very cozy and accessible. Walk around the track and see for yourself. You will feel like an Olympian. It's a wondeful place. Plus there are college eateries nearby and even the incredible Prince Pucklers ice cream is half a block away. Enjoy!
Hayward Field is a must see for all track fans and athletes visiting the area. Our son is a lonestar conference runner and this was the only spot he wanted to be sure we saw when we were in the area.
If you are a runner, you can't miss the chance to take a lap on the very track that Pre graced decades ago. Unforgettable.
Great place to watch top notch track and field. Not a bad seat in the house. Many food options. Bring a stadium cushion for general admission seating.
A visit to Hayward is a must for all track fans. World famous it is unlike any other track events. The stands are packed with cheering fans and you can feel the atmosphere. Unique in track. If you are here in the summer, there are "all comers" meets where anyone can participate. This gives you a chance to say you "ran" on Hayward field, which is bragging rights for runners. Where Steve Prefontaine ran, and host of the last 2 Olympic Track/Field trials (and hosting #3 for a record in '16). Even if it is not open, drive by and look through the gates.
This is a great historic venue that has seen some of the greatest athletes on earth preform on its hallowed grounds.I have been going to the Pre Classic for many, many years now and it has always offered an incredible experience for both the fans and the athletes. The access to the world class athletes is unrivaled in any sport. Autzen gets the headlines (and lives up to them) but Hayward holds its own.
I have always wanted to see this historic track, so it was a highlight for me. Unfortunately the track itself was completely locked up and under construction when we were there. The infield was consumed with huge tents, so it was hard to see what I wanted.
I was fortunate enough to study at the University of Oregon on study abroad from Australia! This meant I was lucky enough to see Hayward Field every day, and it never lost its pearl. I wish that I could have been there for a track meet, but it was amazing to see it, and even better to walk on it.
I have been attending track meets here for 40+ years. The athletes are world class. The setting is beautiful. The meets are run precisely. The fans are knowledgeable and appreciative. At the USA Olympic Trial several years ago, I sat next to a Los Angles sports fan. At the end of a very exciting race, he said he had attended 100s of sports events and had never heard the fans so loud.
Hayward Field is legendary, historic and has to be THE best place to watch and run in a track meet. The fans support great track and that makes it a magical place to run & watch:-) Only thing I would improve: more leg room in stands- small thing compared to the experience.
This venue is not only historical, but is keep in excellent condition to host world class track meets. If you get a chance to enjoy a track meet here, not only will you like the facilities, you will love the fans. Eugene supports track and field. They are educated fans who know what they like, and when they come here, they see a lot of what they like.
Beautiful, historic, Hayward field. Awesome. TracktownUSA put on an absolutely fantastic event! So much to see and do. They showed the world why they are the track and field capitol of the world.
Went to Hayward Field for the last day of the World Junior Track & Field Championships after completing the Eugene Half Marathon in the morning. Hayward Field is known as Historic Hayward Field and Eugene is known as Track Town USA for good reason. The facility, of course, was dressed to the nines for the event, but one can tell that it is a great facility even without all of the dressing up. Hayward Field has seen most, if not all of the greats of track and field compete there during its life. The over 10,000 fans who attended when we did were very knowledgeable and appreciative of all of the performances, whether they were on the oval or in the field. That is almost as impressive as the history of the facility.Glad we made the trek.
