I made a garden flower that turned out really pretty . The instructor was nice and friendly . I only wish they offered more options on colors that you can choose from . They shipped fast . Overall a good time .
Last Oct, I attempted to book a group appointment using a 6 person group-on credit before the 'use' deadline (I called on a Sat). I specifically wanted to book on a Fri afternoon or Sat because I was inviting a couple of 12 year old girls, who were only available on school days off. The person who took my call indicated that they couldn't make an appointment at that time because they were in the process of expanding their capacity, but that they would take my name and number and call me back no later than Tues. I remember this because I had a business trip schedule on Tues at night and I specifically asked for a return call before 5pm. I never received a call on that Tues. I followed up with a phone call on the next Sat after I got back from my business trip. The person who took my call was rude and stated that they had no record of my call. She indicated that the only availability for the group on deal was on weekdays only before the expiry. I attempted to see if I could get it scheduled after the expiry, due to the kids schedule, but would not accommodate. The lady was rude - came across like she didn't believe I had called earlier. I contacted Group-on and received a refund, but I am truly disappointed because I purchased this workshop as a gift to a close friend (who is an artist) and our group was excited to try this out. I understand that it can be a challenge as a small business to keep up with demand, but I would expect basic customer service. I typically never post comments, but felt it was important to share my experience.
We went to Live Laugh Love Glass on 9/26/13 and we had a great time. Before heading to Portland I looked on Groupon and found a deal that allowed my husband and I to make glass flowers for $25 per person. We decided to give it a try and I am so glad we did. We were able to pick what colors we wanted from a wide array of choices. Next, our instructor, Jo, was great! She went through the whole process with us and explained it step by step. My husband went first (I wanted to watch him before I went) and then I after him. The whole process took about 30 minutes. We were able to pick up our flowers the following day. I am so glad we went! It was a lot of fun and just enough for a first time glass session.
I booked a class for my fiance and I while we would be out in Oregon. He was hesitant at first about taking a glass blowing class but we both had a great time. We scheduled the class for first ting in the morning and had Jessie as an instructor. She was amazing! She first showed us samples of the different colors of glass that were already blown so we could pick the shade of clor as well as offereed suggestions about what would work best when it came to layering our colors. We then were able to pick the pattern that we would create... we were show samples yet again for this. We then hada walk through of the hotshop and the process was explained to us. We went one at a time with her helping with some of the harder steps as well as gathering the glass onto the rod for us (i completely understand that since they wouldnt want amatuers to contaminate the clear glass) She was encouraging and helpful throughout the whole process and even talked to us about how you would make the other sorts of projects like the floppy bowls and such. Overall a great experience. Just wish we lived closer to go again soon!
Loved making my own glass float. Our instructor was very patient with us. She explained everything before we started and helped us ever step of the way. We were able to make 2 beautiful glass floats. I can't wait to pick them up in a few days. Next time I think I want to try the glass fusing project. When we were there, there was a girl's birthday party going on. It looked like they were having a blast. (Kids under 9 are not allowed in the hot oven area.)
We went for a Saturday 2 hr class of glass fusion. What a blast. The instructor did a great job and was very clear on how to do it. I am not sure why the reviews were so bad on some of these. We did not experience anything but fun. We all said we would like to do it again. We can't wait for our projects to be fired. It was fun to see every ones ideas put to glass. A great time for a group of middle aged women and younger too. Clean and well lit and well marked with colors and supplies.
When I went to retrieve my daughter's piece, which was her 19th birthday gift, it was cracked. The owners told me to leave her bowl and they would make another one just like it then I could have both when I came back. Not the best solution, but I'm easy going. I just went to retrieve the bowls and was handed a bowl that only mildly resembles the bowl my daughter made. When I asked for the original I was told that it was thrown out and that I should have not expected to get the original even though the owner that was telling me this heard the conversation where the promise was made! So now I have a random, meaningless bowl. If a piece cracks while at the shop, shouldn't the customer be given the option to remake the item? Yes? If you are going to spend a lot of money for this experience do you want to end up with a product someone else made? No? Seems simple to me!
The art of glass blowing and the techniques involved were condensed into a 1.5 hour lesson. The teacher had a masters degree in glass and was very knowledgeable. He had the patience to work with my son and I while we created a glass ball and bowl. The hands on work we did created on of a kind keepsakes. Highly recommended for the creative traveler looking for a unique experience.
I visited the gallery and took a masterpiece class I was disappointed and feel bad for anyone else that has to go through this experience. The atmosphere seemed tacky and overpriced. It was unprofessional and unorganized. I see this place has possitive reviews it may depend on the instuctor. During the class I asked the instructor if he had made any of the items in the gallery and he said he had along with some of the other instructors. He was very insistent on how the owner did not make any of it. And afterward when I inquired about a particular piece he said it was an import bought at IKEA and then resold by them as the owner’s art. The instructors rolled his eyes as he told me this. I was flabbergasted I didn’t know what to think. The class area is well kept and well lite but the air ventilation was subpar. There were no windows or doors to the outside so it was near 100 degrees where we were working. For those of you that don’t know it takes a lot of heat to melt glass so be prepared or warned. They did have a nice selection of colors but we were informed some look different after you use them and they had hardly any samples so it was kind of a crap shoot. It was ok though because I have taken a couple other glass blowing classes before and I was there for the experience not to get a perfect piece. After I chose the colors I didn’t get to do much else. I picked up some of the color after the instructor put some glass on the forming rod but he quickly took it away and awkwardly finished the piece over the next 20 minutes. Instead of talking about his art. It was more of a gossip forum about the dysfunction of the management. The piece came out deformed which would be ok if I would have been more hands on. I felt as if I paid 120 dollars to watch someone else learn how to make my piece (The Instructor). When I have taken classes in the past or seen glass blowing at the coast the craftsman always make it look so easy, which it is not and I understand that. But the person instructing me here looked like he was learning or having an off day. The class was only 30 minutes at best. Most of the time is spent waiting on the staff. I have been to many glass studios from Italy to Portland and this is the worst one I have been to. Do yourself a favor and check out any other glass studio
This was a special Christmas present that I gave to my wife. We had two private back-to-back 1-hour glassblowing classes. We've never done glassblowing before. The instructor was excellent - very friendly, easygoing, patient, informative, and fun. We got to select our favorite colors, and over the two hours we made two gorgeous bowls and three ornaments (see pix). We are very pleased with the results and will cherish our handmade art pieces for years to come. It was a LOT of fun and we learned a great deal about glassblowing. We would recommend these classes to anyone!
I went in to look at the items they had for sale and to ask about classes. The lady was so rude and impatient that I am happily taking my money else where. I was going to be buying a few gift certificates for birthdays but have picked another place that was a lot nicer.
I've visited a number of glass studios and glass shops and this one has been the best! Prices for glass pieces are very reasonable and the owners are so friendly! This was the first place where I took a class and it was so much fun and I learned so much. I've been back many times and I know I'll keep going back! My daughter who is 8 even got to help! Absolutely fun and memorable! I also like that they allow you to make different pieces, unlike the glass shops who will only let you make a float.
Amazing instruction given. Very professional and a well set up business. I was so happy with the experience both myself and partner had.
My family took a glass blowing class together (2 kids ages 12 and 15) with Live Laugh Love Glass. The studio is beautiful and the observation deck is really cool and beautifully decorated (and comfortable!). They also have a restaurant which I am eager to try for a date night glass blowing dinner show. Our instructor was Evan and he has amazing talent and took time individually with each one of us to create individual works of art. Brett and Natalie, the owners, are so friendly and helpful too. The glass pieces we made are breathtaking and the experience left us eagerly anticipating our next visit and creations!
I stumbled upon Live Laugh Love Glass while trying to find exciting and fun things to do while visiting the Portland area. I have always been fascinated by glass blowing, but never really thought I would have the opportunity to give it a try without signing up for some lengthy course at a college or something. I jumped on the Introductory Class, and booked it over the phone for two of us. My confirmation email came right away.We arrived for our scheduled time and signed some wavers. They have a nice elevated viewing area where you can watch what is going on in the studio through big plate-glass windows. We watched a lady and the instructors working on a piece together. I was very excited thinking that I was going to get to do that next. A video was playing on the TVs too of some glass blowing event -- half a dozen or so artists working on huge pieces. It was inspiring to see what can be done with glass, but I kept my hopes much simpler. Safety goggles on and into the studio we went. It is a bit warm, but thats to be expected with a large oven of molten glass and a second one for heating the glass up as its being worked with. Paul, our instructor was fantastic!! He first gave us a tour of the equipment and was very thorough in pointing out how to handle equipment and what might be dangerous. He encouraged us to ask any questions which we might think of. I thought of many, and with the true patience of a teacher and passion of an artist he answered everything!!We got to choose what sort of piece we were going to blow, and what colors we wanted to use. They have two huge bread carts with container after container of colored glass chips which are used to put the color you want into the clear glass. Paul helped me to pick colors that would work well together. He was very helpful in assisting with the steps in the process of making my piece, yet encouraging and supportive in allowing me to experience each step. For the newbie, there is quite a bit to think about while working with glass and I was a bit scared to mess something up and have a shattered chunk of glass to go home with. Thankfully all the guidance, and assistance paid off. I was so focused and having fun that I lost track of time. I think my piece took about 40 minutes to create, but I get to enjoy it forever! We came back the next day to pick up our art. It needs to cool down slowly in an oven which brings the temperature of the glass down slow enough as to not cause stress within the glass. Stressed glass can end up shattering, which would not be a fun thing to have happen with my first piece of blown glass.I would highly recommend this business to anyone: kids, families, couples, or friends. I will be going back for sure next time I am in the Portland area!
