The beach wasn't bad shape the day we visited. We didn't find a lot of garbage around. It was quiet. Of course there was nobody around to collect the posted fee for parking. There is a building on the right that is probably a gathering point at night given the number of tea light candles piled up in the corners. On this day there were hundreds of sea gulls that took over the beach. It was an interesting sight. I popped a few photos and wished I had worn my hat as they took off flying.Others have noted a garbage problem and a dog feces problem on this beach. We didn't see anything, but the makings for the problem certainly are here. It is too bad that people can be such pigs. This can be a pretty spot and I am glad some people are finding it that way sometimes.Note that during our visit there was a working porta-potty set up on the left-hand side of the parking lot. It was pretty clean and the smell wasn't bad.

I thought this lake was beautiful! We watched the sun rise over the lake and it was breath taking. The lighthouse also made a very nice back drop!!!! Love this beach!! Will definitely be going back! There is a 5.00 admission for certain times if the year- we didn't have to pay- we went after Labor day,

I hate to review any location in a poor light, but this beach is pretty disgusting. Obviously I've been blessed to have experienced much better beaches that I'd call mediocre. This beach we in passing stopped at to simply see an ohio beach, since we were on our way to cedar point.. The beach is in a smaller town, small beach, $5 parking fee.. We arrived mid morning, and there were a few families there already, darker color coarse sand, kind of a bay, and there were no waves.. On the surface it looked promising.. We walked down to the shore, and over some trees to the left we noticed a man made cloud machine, billowing white smoke.. Ok, then all the garbage, driftwood, misc organic waste that had washed up on shore.. Ok, then a smell.. And by looking around more, we see there is dog feces all over the place.. Stunk of dog feces obviously there is no clean up nor enforcement of dogs doing there business on this beach.. We left as soon as we could get to the car. Maybe someone should consider actually using or raising the parking fee to actually clean up this beach. It could be nice if it weren't for all the washed up garbage, and dog feces.Or maybe rename it to dog beach? We will never go here again..

Enjoyed our time at the beach. Nice sandy beach. The water was clean and calm. Was fairly busy and somewhat difficult to find as there was very little signage. Was disappointed to find there were no restrooms! For $5 a car, and as busy as they were, you would think this is something they could provide.

Has a playground, grills, bathrooms, volleyball, and picnic tables. $5 fee to park, but when we got there at 8am, no one wa there to pay. Water was beautiful (cold) and the rocks were perfect for skipping. Took some great pics of Lake Erie and Huron pier.

I visited Nickel Plate Beach for the first time this last week and was surprised by how much it felt like I was standing on a beach in California again. Had i been blindfolded and taken there i would have sworn i was at the ocean. It was breathtaking! They have a nice playground area for young children to play and it was not over crowded. It was later in the day when we arrived so we didn't have to pay the parking fee. The only draw back to this beach that i could see was the dead fish! However as i continued my vacation i found that this is a problem all along Erie Lake. I would recommend this beach as it is beautiful despite the dead fish.

me and my family and kids went there and it was so fun, it nice to just find a spot and listen to the waves or just relax and enjoy family time, swimming was nice, had great views loved watching the boats and the view was breathtaking, very peaceful and relaxing there is nothing like it, the 5 dollar parking fee isnt even that bad either just to enjoy a little slice of heaven for a while.

i was there in tne 2013 summer...i recently moved t ohio then and i loved it quiet, beautiful, and extremely peaceful. not over crowd and there is restaurants close by for food in less than 5 min ride. the only negative is the portable potties...but it beats the woods. and they where keep clean. when i visited...ty for the great memories among friends. my kids enjoy the play area and other families where enjoying the volleyball nets, floting devices and swimming. 5 dollar parking fee and i didnt notice a lifeguard on duty but it was nice and quiet day at the lake....

You have to pay to park. I think that's great if they put the money back into the beach.. But when we went there were lots of sticks and it wasn't very clean.

I like to duck in here towards sunset and take photographs. I've never had to pay to park, but I'm never there during the heat of the day. It's a scenic little spot off the main road.

This is a great place to enjoy Lake Erie..nice play area for kids. Sand volleyball..great picnic area with grills..only downfall is the porta pots.

Nickel Plate Beach is a public beach open to anyone visiting Huron. There is a $5 entrance fee per car. There is a small playground, beach volleyball, and lots of sand and sun. Bring your own snacks and drinks with you as well. This is a great place to spend the day as a family- but be aware of the weather and the current because there are no lifeguards on duty, and sadly, accidental drownings happen every summer on Lake Erie.

No dead fish! Well groomed! Beautiful sunset! Great playground! Great soft and clean sand! Just wish it was not near a power plant to the left :(

Full disclosure, I'm originally from the South, so when I think of a "beach" I think of white Gulf sand and blue salty water. This is not that, obviously. However, the sand was clean-- I didn't notice a lot of debris and I didn't have any misgivings about my 2 year olds walking around barefoot. There is a fun play structure for younger kids and two volleyball nets set up. The picnicing area is small, but well kept. My biggest frustration is the lack of non port-a-potty bathrooms & changing areas. The cost is just $5 per car load.

I live in Mansfield, Ohio and grew up as a kid driving nearly an hour to this beach. I loved jumping up and down in the waves, playing chicken, and walking out to the end of the pier. Another enjoyable thing is that you can take floatables (rafts, toys, etc) into the water. If you are a water baby like me, you will also enjoy that there's no lifeguard in the water, so you don't have to get out ever 45 minutes. There's picnic tables, volleyball nets, and a play area for the kids. Even though it's listed as a public beach, it seems more private. Maybe that's because they charge $5 a car load for the whole day, but they don't always have somebody there to collect it. I reccomend trying it out! :)
