Nice easy walk. Nice scenery and peaceful. Great spot for kayaking or birdwatching or just for a nice easy hike.
A nice walk around however as we approached the other side that ends up on the road the trail became a stream! Be ready to take off hiking shoes and wade through the water!
Headed here to see the moose. First and foremost, coming in from the east, don't let google maps bring you in over Elbow and Old Turnpike off of 100 unless you are in an ATV! Go all the way to Chittenden. The view was great and imagine on a pretty day, the walk around the pond would be spectacular. Very clean bathroom and about 10 parking spaces. Enjoy. We would try again in better weather.
We visited in early October during the peak color season. Very relaxing and great photo opportunities.
a little hard to find--two lakes in one and a marsh. Bird variety just okay. Nice to see loons and kingfishers. Pretty but not spectacular. Free with about ten parking spots and a portapotty. A few Trails around lake. Only of interest to those staying nearby.
I find it is one of the best places to see osprey, moose, mergansers, turtles, blue heron and a lot of pretty plants with a view to boot.
Leffert's Pond is an amazing place to be on a nice day. From the main area you can launch a kayak or canoe on either Leffert's Pond as well as Chittenden Reservoir. There is an easy hiking trail that loops around Leffert's Pond that takes about an hour to complete and gives you some incredible views along the way. The only downside was that the trail was quite muddy and needed some trailwork done in places. The trail is listed as open to mountain bikers, but it should be noted that it is more suited towards beginner mountain bikers. The spot is popular with moose-watchers, although I have yet to see one there myself. I have seen beavers on the pond as well as many birds and other small wildlife. The bass fishing is also quite good here.If the hiking trail was improved some to improve drainage, Leffert's Pond would be a 5-star attraction. The views are awesome and it has always been peaceful whenever I have been there.
A newly upgraded launch and hiking spot just outside of Rutland on the Chittenden res.
This is a good place to walk the dog. HIking on very easy terrain. Nice accress to Chittenden Res. with great views of the Green Mtns
The trail to the pond was beautiful, especially during the foliage season the reflection of the mountain on the water was breathtaking. It was so quiet and felt like a secret discovery that not many people know about.
Love Lefferts. Have to be the outdoor type to enjoy. Great hike all the way around the pond., takes several hours. Fun short walk to the water. Great for fishing, picnics or canoeing!!!!Also, drive just past the sign to turn in for parking, .2 miles up on the left is a small turn off/canoe pull out... walk in and look straight across and slightly to the right. I have seen moose there every time (dawn or dusk), bring binoculars!!!!
