There was no glass blowing that week we were there, which was disappointing. What made it worse was the saleslady never got up, never greeted us, never tried to make the items in the shop interesting. In fact, it wasn't very welcoming. She spent a lot of time surfing on her phone.Maybe if there was a glass blowing demonstration, it would have been better.
Amazing skill. Actually got to see the glass being blown and formed. Wonderful experience. Glass pieces throughout the store are beautiful. Bought a few for christmas gifts.
We were in the area and saw that Ziemke glass blowing was occurring this past week. Took young kids in to see the owner/artisan work his magic and turn molten sand into cool pieces of work. Watched him make a few pieces, constantly shaping, putting glass in/out of 2000 degree propane furnaces. It was a lot of fun to watch and the kids were mesmerized by the whole thing. Just be careful if you have kids of getting them through the displays of all his work to the room where you watch him do his work. He has a board in the viewing room that teaches you all the basics of what is entailed in glass blowing. Very neat.
Quaint and unique shop that is a must see while you're in Waterbury. The studio is so neat. You can sit and watch the glass blower & we were lucky enough to get some information from the sales clerk while the gentleman was making a vase. Such an interesting experience! Great for kids!!
Very nice varied selections of items to purchase. When I first looked around, i thought it was a bit expensive. But then I went and looked at Mr. Ziemke working and creating a piece. It is so interesting to see a how this is made, how much mastery and patience it takes to create each piece. I went back to look in the store and ended up buying a beautiful red wine glass.
This is a nice shop. There is a varied selection of unique glass items to purchase. Every year we find something to purchase either for ourselves or a gift. The glass-blowing demonstrations are awesome.
It was a great visit, truly nice shop, we were able to see them do a glass tumbler, it takes him about twenty minutes to complete the process. It was amazing to see the steps of how he makes the glasses. The gifts are pricey, but then again, you understand the quality and work behind them. A great place to buy a local souvenir or gift.
This is a neat little shop. The presentation of the glass blowing was fun to see. The prices were a little too steep for my taste. Worth seeing if you want to kill 20 minutes.
We stopped at Ziemke Glass Blowing Studio earlier today, and what a wonderful experience it was! When we passed the sign for the studio on the road, we saw the small hanging sign underneath stating that glass was being blown today. The shop is small but more than adequately displays the STUNNING glasswork of Mr. Ziemke. There are some stools and a bench set-up in front of a large window where you can watch up-close as this true master is practicing his craft. Over the course of maybe 10 - 15 minutes, we watched him produce a water pitcher...AMAZING! He was very gracious and came over to the window to wave as a thank you for our attention. Truly, it was one of the most mesmerizing things my husband & I have ever seen. This was a real treat and by far one of the highlights of our trip to Waterbury!
We could have watched this guy for hours. What a true craftsman. Such beautiful works of art. Next time we are in town we will be sure to stop in again. Don't miss this' it's a great place.
The building is divided between the glass work space and a store that sells the things the owner makes. There's a nice air conditioned viewing space to watch, and if the store isn't busy, the guy behind the counter will talk to you about what the glass blower is doing. This guy has been blowing glass for 38 years, and he's really wonderful to watch. He also makes virtually everything in the store (not the glass beads), so you can go in the store and see cool examples of the things he's just made. And the glass work is lovely as well.
The glass blowing is outstanding, the gal at the desk answering questions and talking about the process made it even better! We learned a ton.
You think you won't stay long when you first walk in but then you become memorized to watch the artist work. It's clear that this form of art is a labour of love. You will be thoroughly intrigued to watch the project from start to finish while the glassblowing demonstration is in session.
Nice local shop, but they were unloading stuff and went on a break while we were there, so didn't get to see any glass blowing...expensive items to purchase
Rarely do you get to see glass blowing in action...so this was a treat. The viewing area has a large window and we could see the piece from beginning to end...absolutely beautiful. Some reviews have said the pieces are pricey but remember this is not made in China, this is an original made in USA....I bought a beautiful piece and had them ship it. I can't wait for it to arrive. Not the typical attraction...we'll worth your time if you appreciate the arts.
