Gothic not in the sense that this term has come to be used in recent years. There will be no vampires if you visit. On a wet and windy February day, we were lucky to have a few minutes to visit before closing at 17.00. The views from the tower must be superb but we didn't get the opportunity.

This soaring cathedral has just about everything you could want to soak up history. I visit this cathedral each trip to Carcassonne. It is so pleasant just to sit and relax for a bit. The last time we were there, there was a wedding; the music was ethereal, delivered in that welcome, cool darkness.

This was a nice touch to our stay - completely restored with the city, free to visit and a beautiful Cathedral.

If you go to Europe, you are going for the history. Cathedrals are part of that and you should not miss this one. We happened to come upon vocalists while we were here. It was relaxing and inspiring to sit and listen.

This church was built in the thirteenth century as a parish church and rebuilt as a fortified church in the fourteenth century after suffering damage in the war. It became a cathedral in 1803 taking the status from the church of Saints Nazarius and Celsus. It is designated as a national monument and is the seat of the Bishop of Carcassonne. The cathedral is open daily from 8 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 7 pm.Inside the walls are highly decorated and there are beautiful side chapels. The ceiling is very high and the tall narrow stained glass windows are elegant and very colourful. There are small round stained glass windows up near the ceiling which, when the sun shines through, gives the painted walls a certain ‘glow’. There was quite a bit of restoration work going on during our visit, but it is nice to see that such a magnificent building is being preserved.

Após andar pela cidade, encontramos a catedral, que é de fato enorme, muito grande, toda no estilo gótico. É um pouco escura e vc se sente pequeno no lugar tão grande e cheio de história. Pode acender velas no local ao custo de 1 euro. Vale a pena ir.

Бывая в городах Европы, всегда посещаем кафедральные соборы, так как эти сооружения, как правило, одни из немногих сооружений сохранившиеся с давних времен. Кроме того здесь чувствуется энергия людей, которую они изливали во время своих молитв. Также привлекает художественная ценность убранства храмов. Поэтому мы посетили и собор Каркассона, и остались удовлетворены его строгим видом и красивыми витражами.

Nos encantó. Entramos al mediodia y la luz que entraba por los vitros embellecia el lugar. Al momento que entramos había un coro. Vale la pena entrar.

...кафедральный собор в нем великолепен. Строительство его начал Людовик IX, а закончил его сын Филипп Красивый. В его архитектурном стиле можно заметить как влияние французской классики, так и характерные черты, отличающие его от классического парижского стиля - влияние юга Франции и соседей басков: внешние стены массивные и плотные, капеллы без рельефных внешних выступов, скрытые в стенах и составляющие единое целое с внутренним пространством собора. И тем не менее собор смотрится очень цельным. Лицезреть его можно круглогодично, в любой день недели, храм открыт для свободного посещения.

После осмотра крепости мы направились по пешеходному мосту через реку в центр города и вскоре вышли к собору указанному на карте. Собор не очень монументальный, но имеет неплохое внутренне убранство и прекрасные витражи, которые благодаря солнечному дню сверкали во всем великолепии.
