Amazing skiing in Italy - a beautiful and sunny resort with great views of Mont Blanc! Lots of terrain to explore

There is no ski bus to get you around town. The base of the Dolonne gondola is across the highway from the main town and there are no services near the gondola. The hotels that have their own shuttles are the best choice for staying. Otherwise you have a long walk to the gondola or you can take the cable car from the other end of town. Either way, it's a hike. At the top of the gondola is the staging area. Restaurants, ski school, rental shops, etc. Super G is a nice place to chill after if you're waiting for others in you party. Couches and soft chairs and big screen TV with magazines to read. Next to Super G is a little rental shop where the locals go. You can change from shoes into boots there and they will store your rucksack or boots for free. Leave your skis and boots there for a fee overnight. Well worth it if you plan to come back. And there are stairs and walking between lifts. The second gondola up requires walking up a flight of stairs with your gear. The Youla cable car gets packed like a sardine can so go early to see the views of Mont Blanc. The runs are steep but groomed to perfection. Lazey and Internazionale are very nice runs. Pra Neyron and Val Veny had way too much uphill and traversing. Favourites were Des Eves and Gigante -- what a scenic ride the latter is. Stunning. Good in the afternoon as north facing. The restaurants on that side of the mountain are top notch. Getting in can be tricky as every table is reserved...unless they like you. We got in! Beautiful vista, outdoor seating in sunshine, excellent meal. Get ready for major meals at lunch. They do have cafeteria style lunch places, but that is so un-Italian. Do yourself a favour and do as the locals do. The skiers in Courmayeur tend to be very good as there are very limited beginner facilities. Most of the people are locals and have been skiing a long time. Less than 2 hours from Milan and Geneva means weekends are crazy. Restaurants are booked out so book in advance if you don't want to be disappointed. Mid-week is pretty empty and terrific. Your ski pass is good at La Thuile and there is a bus from Courmayeur (buy ticket in advance at the bus station next to the cinema -- costs like 2.5€. Great trip up the mountain with hairpin turns takes about 30 minutes. Bus goes right to the gondola. La Thuile is a teensy pretty town with about 2 restaurants so not worth staying there but the skiing is very different from Courmayeur. More wide open bowls and not as steep, although there are also more black expert runs there. You can ski down the other side into France from here, too. Certain lift passes are also good for Pila (about 40 minutes from Courmyeur). The base is in an ugly industrial area and the gondola crosses over highways to get up the mountain, so you do not want to stay there. The resort up there offers some nice wide open bowl skiing although we got socked in with snow and low cloud.

Skiing in Courmayeur is a bit different than most areas. You take a tram from the center of the city to Plan Checrouit, which is an area covered in snow and surrounded by restaurants, ski shops, rental shops, and the Ski School.You can come up the tram carrying your boots and skis, go to one of the shops at Plan Checrouit to change your clothes, and check your boot bag and shoes. You will be walking on a groomed ski area, so you need to wear shoes that are waterproof.After skiing for the day, you can check your skis and boots in the shops so you don't have to carry them the next days. And, you then can go to one of the many restaurants for an après ski cocktail (and you must get a "Bombardino" if you have never had one).

Ad Agosto è tutto chiuso tranne la piscina alpina e la seggiovia che porta al rifugio Maison Vieille, peccato perchè è bellissimo.

Premetto che il mio parere si riferisce ad un soggiorno estivo, ma é veramente desolante vedere tutti i numerosi rifugi chiusi , unico punto di ristoro maison veille che funziona a turni!!!!!

Splendida vista sulla conca di Courmayeur. Abbiamo raggiunto il vicino lago Checrouit e passeggiato in direzione della val Veny. L'occhio attento può scorgere numerose marmotte che prendono il sole sui massi. Si può raggiungere in funivia da Courmayeur o a piedi da Dolonne lungo un ripido sentiero.

De acesso facílimo à partir quase do centro de Courmayeur, tem instalações excelentes e todo tipo de facilidades para esquiadores ou meros apreciadores, incluindo acolhedores locais de alimentação. Interessantes e frequentadas as escolas rápidas de esqui, com um setor dedicado para criancinhas, muito enternecedor. Vistas deslumbrantes, mormente se utilizar-se as segiovias que originam-se do local

Ci sono stata lo scorso weekend...e devo dire che l'impatto con l'industrializzazione è a dir poco devastante....c'è troppo...CEMENTO..Ma sapete come ho risolto la questione? Semplicemente alzando la testa e guardando le Alpi innevate =)

oa parte per la piscina alpina (complimenti ai ragazzi che la gestiscono!) una località incantevole appare semi abbandonata in estate. E pensare chee tutto: da parchi giochi, a cross country equestre, da MTB a escursionismo, da sagre a concerti in quota potrebbe esservi praticato in libertà, approfittando di uno scenario unico!

Come ha scritto l'utente carlo f, d'estate è veramente pietoso. Si salva solo e unicamente per la piscina riscaldata, gestita da ragazzi veramente cortesi e in gamba. Per il resto, locali chiusi e un'aria di desolazione totale. Me lo ricordavo quando andavo a sciare da ragazzo molto più vivo.

l'idea è eccellente: una piscina all'aperto in quota (circa 1700 metri), in uno scenario grandioso di fronte al monte bianco.Peccato che: - ci si arriva con una funivia il cui costo andata/ritorno è di 25 euro a testa compreso l'ingresso in piscina- se non si acquista l'ingresso in piscina ci si ritrova in un bellissimo scenario nel quale però non c'è un solo bar aperto; l'unico infatti è quello della piscina- per avere più scelta occorre prendere una seggiovia da Plan Checrouit (la Maison Vieille), aggiungendo altri 5 euro andata/ritorno ma questa soluzione può non essere gradita a chi ha neonati/bimbi piccoli per i quali non c'è una sistemazione ad hoc sulla seggiovia. Li si tiene in braccio e stop- in piscina ci sono sauna, toilette, spogliatoi (molto spartani, spesso con appendiabiti rotti), armadietti (a pagamento), sdraio (a pagamento), bar (ovviamente a pagamento). E' un posto bellissimo, anche per bimbi molto piccoli (8/12 mesi) ma non esiste nè un fasciatoio nè un semplice tavolino sul quale cambiarli nè asciugamani di carta (nè di tela) alla toilette, nè un parcheggio ad hoc per passeggini (lo si tiene con sè vicino alla sedia a sdraio), nè scaldabiberon, nè seggioloni Come spesso accade in Italia i servizi sono studiati (?) solo per adulti senza esigenze particolari, disposti a spendere anche per cose di base

il posto ha perso le caratteristiche del passato, molto disperso , con alcuni locali fatiscenti , d'estate poi è veramente squallido.per fortuna funziona la seggiovia che porta a la maison vielle
