Went there several times as I like proper Ale's rather than the local lager. Athos is a very nice guy and really knows his stuff about beer!I WILL be back.
If you like proper beer and you want a genuine Cypriot experience then this the bar for you. If you like drinking beer with a beautiful happy cat on your lap then this is the bar for you.If you want to feel at home and part of a community even though you're in town for just a week then this is the bar for you...We found amazing beers, a warm welcome, brilliant tips on where/how to find old-style Cypriot eating and drinking places, explanations of local customs, samples of local specialties and most importantly of all a place run with passion by lovely people who care as much about the people coming through the door as the beer they sell.
Sharing a few hours in the Fishing Shack with Athos and Sue is always enjoyable. This man is a walking Wikipedia on Ale and Cider. The ambience is so calm and laid back you will never want to leave. If your a real ale fan, a night at the Shack will be like you have died and gone to heaven over and over. I recommend a Sunday of Scrabble, some complimentary spuds and Black pudding, but forget about trying to beat him at the game, he is just to damn good. Excellent venue, best pub in Cyprus.
Visited this Cider pub on our first Sunday afternoon in Phaphos. Athos, the owner, was extremally helpful in helping us to choose our Cider. So many, so little time!We had a fabulous afternoon playing Scrabble and Upwords (and drinking cider) with some locals and Athos. I still haven't recovered from the shock of being beaten by you, Mr.Athos. LOL. We had an amazing afternoon here, made to feel very welcome. I am just so sorry that we didn't get to return and repeat the afternoon. Alas a week is just not long enough to fit everything in. However we will definitely return another year.An absolute must for any of you Cider drinkers out there.
Gutted I only found this place at the end of our holiday. After getting sick of the poor lager available everywhere else in Paphos, it was a welcome sight to walk in and see such a variety of craft beers and ciders. The owner is happy to help you choose and give an insight into each of the beers available. Nice to meet someone so passionate about what he does. Will certainly be back if we're ever in the area again.
This place is a must if you are feed up of the local Keo and Leon. Real ale and cider, it took a while to find as it's down on of the side streets off bar street but the walking was worth it
The best real ale and cider selection and atmosphere in Paphos. We visited Paphos two years running and discovered The Old Fishing Shack and its owners were a favourite very quickly. A must for anyone. From John, Andy, Kim, Charlotte and Nathan (whatever).
I have been going to Pafos for the last 23 years and my wife and I have been drinking in the shack for 16 years we have become very dear friends with the owners Athos and Sue, if you are on holiday in Pafos I urge you to put this on your must visit list. Athos's knowledge of the history behind every bottle and can he serves is incredible, his wife sue is the perfect host, on top of all of this the background music Athos plays is the best. We are looking forward to our next holiday already.
this is the place to spend a plesent evening trying out diferent ales, athos and sue make you fell most welcome (as does felix the cat) the freidly atmosphere encoroges client to mix and get to know each otherwitch all adds to a very pleasent evening
So, you're enjoying the delights of Paphos, the historical sights, the great weather, the lovely people and the fab food....but what about the beer? Well, there's not a lot of variety and I soon found the Keo and Leon, although refreshing during the day, were becoming a bit stale to drink all week long. So a quick search for "real ale in Paphos" turned up this little place. And what a smashing little place it is. The owner stocks a very wide range of imported bottled real ales and ciders and is highly knowledgeable and passionate about the topic. Over 200 different bottled beers/ciders including beer brewed on the island (Aphrodite Brewery and another - who's name escapes me). A superb selection, a friendly and laid back vibe and a must visit for those who need a fix of decent beer...Prices are reasonable too. Do yourself a favour and pop along. If you like your ales and ciders you can't go wrong as it's probably the only place on the Island to offer such great variety. Loved it!
A better selection of beer can be found here than most pubs in UK. Athos and Suzanne are great hosts and make spending time there a true pleasure.
Thankfully I was made aware of the Old fishing shack before my trip to Paphos, so it was on the list to visit & it didn't let me down. After the flavourless beer of Keo, Leon & some non Cypriot beers to have a gem like this was truly welcome, not only did Athos keep a well stocked selection of ales & ciders he was a great host and being Camra members plenty of beer talk was held. The clientele were fantastic and the also contributed to conversations beer related and not beer related , also sharing good places to eat too. For those going to Paphos who want a quality beer for the UK & the World, from Ciders to Porters & Stouts make sure you drop in.. We need to keep places like this open and that means spending a bit of quality time and a few Euros there , for imported beers the price are very reasonable and worth paying above the price of the cheap island beers to get your taste buds working... It's open evening through to the early hours so be prepared , its hard to leave .
Athos & Sue at the Fishing Shack always made every visitor welcome, as we sat in the shade watching the golf on a 60" television. Athos turned the tv round for us. Free snacks were given to everyone all throughout the day. Athos prides himself with the vast amount of different beers and whiskys from all parts of the world. They made our holiday in Kato Pathos so special, we had to return years later. WE will be back again soon.
If you are looking for real beer Athos the owner has around 150 different beers and knows all about every one! This is a typical old bar in Paphos but if you want good beer from all over the world it's the place to go
Athos and Sue run the best stocked real ale bar ever, an absolute must to visit if you like GOOD beer! Opens at 7pm till late... Made a great holiday even better, thanks. From Mick and Keren xx
