I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly pleased, there are more tombs than I expected covering quite a large area, and we really enjoyed exploring them, some of the steps were a bit steep, there are plenty of information boards so you always knew what you were looking at, well worth a visit, the bus stops outside which was handy.
This is a wonderful place just to walk around. It is quite a big site. Please note that most ofThe tombs require walking down stone steps. So do wear sensible shoes.
Totally amazed by this place. It exceeded my expectations. Well worth a visit. Very tranquil place and amazing views. Words can't describe how you feel when entering the tombs. Just make sure you wear good footwear as very uneven under foot. Not like I did totally inappropriately dressed!!!
Although it wasn't kings buried there the Tomb of the kings has an amazing aura to it and a special feel. When we went in January it was very quiet and we were often alone within the tombs giving a spooky feel to it. Price wise it was excellent value and would recommend to anyone.
A really good experience, somewhere between 4 and 5 stars but gave 5 because of all the negative comments from others. It's a really under-developed site and this has pros and cons. On the positive side, you can basically walk around/in all the tombs which is incredible. There is also an abundance of wildlife (lizards, birds, butterflies etc) and a great backdrop of the beautiful sea. On the negative side, there are very few facilities and the fact you can physically touch the ruins means that there are some plebs who will scrawl their name and a date and it is also a concern that there will be permanent damage caused. Though from a tourist's perspective, it's fantastic.
This is an interesting site in that is a burial site for rich merchants (not Kings). There are several tombs all of which have been looted but it good to see how the wealthy were buried a long time ago.
The tombs of the Kings are spread over a vast area and are carved out of solid rock. They date from the 4th century BC.High Officials rather than Kings were buried here though the tombs were so magnificent they were known as the Tombs of the Kings. Some tombs have Doric columns, some frescoed walls Tombs 3,4 and 8 are the most impressive. Some are reached by stairs leading to lower courts. The site was looted long before excavations began and it's easy to imagine what treasures would have been buried there. The site closes at 5.00pm during the winter. As there are lots of uneven surfaces, sensible shoes are required. There is also very little shade so a sunhat and water are essential.
The tombs are very intesting with good information supplied at each part of the site. A good place to explore but be careful on climbing in some of the tombs. Car park being upgraded when we visited.Be aware of the lack of shade on sunny days.Worth a visit
We visited here on the coldest day in Paphos for at least 25 years apparently. It had snowed on the beach. By the time we went the worst of the cold weather had blown over, but it was far from warm. Very cheap to get in, and the site is extensive, so we vowed to return on a warmer day and enjoy the many tombs. Some are amazing.
