Rafting at the Futaleufu River is an amazing experience, even in the cold water and non stop rain, the river was pretty full and our class 3 / 4 falls became 5!!!! When we got Quincho fall came across a big wave and I felt out of the boat, no problem at all, I'm used to do things in the water, hold back the boat and the rescued me!!!!! What seemed to be me scared was just me frozen. I definitely recomend that if you are a tiny person as I am, bring your oun vest, otherwise they will give you a very big one, and the water will enter. Once you're in Futaleufu don't miss this adventure!!!!! It's my second rafting in live and was unforgetable!!!!!
Had a wonderful time here in Futaleufu and had the chance to experience rafting for the first time with Bochinche Expeditions located in the plaza. Lovely bunch of guys who also let us rent Kayaks for 2 days at the cabin we stayed at overlooking a lake. Wonderful memories...
My fiance and I spent 10 days on the Futaleufu River with Earth River Outfitters. We had an amazing adventure which included rock climbing, rappelling, white water rafting, white water kayaking, hiking, and camping. The water is the most spectacular color and the rapids are unreal. The river is magical and it's name, which means "painted by gods", is really fitting. The river guides that led our trip were awesome and we cant recommend this outfitter enough.
My husband and I booked our trip with Expediciones Chile. We stayed at the eco camp Tres Monjas spectacularly located on the confluence of the Futaleufu and Azul rivers. The camp is rustic but comfortable and although we were treated like family they managed to make us feel like we were alone with nature. The home cooked meals by Rosie and Paola were among the best we had on our 4 week trip. This was our first time white water rafting and we couldn't have had a better time. Not only did we raft, we kayaked, biked, hiked and fished. Chris and his staff really accommodated our lack of experience and desire to enjoy as much of the area as possible. The guides we had were superb; skilled, professional and fun. Everyone working there loved what they were doing and it showed. Special thanks to Humberto for doing all the rafting work while we paddled mid air and to Tomas and Mike for keeping us safe. I cannot recommend ExChile enough, we had an unforgettable time.
My wife and I went with ExChile in January for a 5-day trip, and they were absolutely exceptional. The camp (Tres Monjas) is one of the oldest there, so it has the best location right on the river with super comfortable private cabins and wood burning sauna. They'll accommodate any number of activities you want to do there -- rafting Futaleufu or the neighboring tributaries, hiking, etc. They have a new chef, Luz, who prepared some of the best food we had during our three month trip. The guides were all experienced on the river, great fun and very professional. Can't recommend ExChile highly enough!
Our little cabin at the confluence of the Azul and Futaleufu Rivers at the Expeditiones Chile basecamp was a piece of heaven. Rolling out of bed each morning to brush my teeth in the frigid waters of the Futa, I looked up and had a view of snow-covered volcanic mountain tops, blue sky and fresh air :) Breakfast cooked on an old-fashioned cookstove by Luce and L'abuela (grandmother in spanish) fueled us for the day. A day on the water, either in our kayaks, or rafting the big volume waters of the Futa. Both equally exciting. If ever in southern Chile - Patagonia; this is a must stop-over for a weeks stay to take it all in. The area is incredible for exploring, Ex Chile staff very accommodating and the knowledge of Chris Spelius and his Chilean wife, Rosie who opened this gem to adventure tourism in the '80's is second to none. We'll be back.
I wish I had more stars to rate my experience on the Futaleufu River with Earth River Expeditions. My friend and I returned from our trip about two weeks ago and I am still buzzing with joy from my adventure and experience of a lifetime. Where do I begin? It all started two-years ago when I booked this trip for my 19 year-old son and I to have a memorable father-son experience. Less than 24 hours before the trip my son became ill in Santiago and required emergency surgery. I called Eric, the owner of Earth River, who understood the situation and without hesitation offered me a credit to do the trip another time, and wished my son a speedy recovery. My son recovered and we managed a great car trip in Patagonia with many suggestions from Eric of where to go, stay and eat.Fast forward two-years: As my son was unavailable, I invited a friend on this trip. Eric remembered my situation and with no hassle or complications, we booked our trip. Everything about this trip was phenomenal, from the flawless logistics, the quality and competency of the Earth River Team; the attention to the details of service, safety, fun, and adventure. Everyday was an adventure from Class V rapids to a 300 foot repel; and of course the hot tubs, delicious food, and libations. I have done many organized adventure trips, but the combination of the magnificent natural beauty, thrilling adventure, and the integrity and quality of the Earth River Team made this trip in a league of its own. My only complaint is the bar has been set very high for my next trip. By the way, upon my return, I offered this trip to my son and his twin sister as a graduation gift.
This is the best place anywhere for rafting and kayak. Beautiful, pristine whitewater amid a stunning mountain valley. Patagonia at its best. That said, DO NOT book a rafting trip with a company in Futaleufu with a company called Patagonia Azul, Its a poorly run outfit that lies at the drop of a hat. Not the kind of people you want to entrust with anything, especially your life.
We just returned from a week-long rafting trip on the Futaleufu River with Earth River Expeditions. It was the most amazing vacation I've ever been on! There is world-class rafting, beautiful scenery, and fun, friendly guides. The camps were rustic, but scenic and charming, with a definite "luxury" feel. Each day after activities, h'ors d'oevres, beer and wine were served by the hot tub, followed by a great dinner. Guides were all extremely safety-oriented and down-to-earth. They even kept us entertained in the evenings. I highly recommend this for any one looking for an adventure who also has culture and beauty in mind, as well.
This was one of our more memorable vacations that can be described with these adjectives: wild, exciting, beautiful, rugged, fun, adventurous, challenging, satisfying ... and many more. Earth River's guides are really the best in the world, and make sure we were always safe and satisfied. Our group of 15 ended up being full of positive, interesting and respectful people, all ready to jump into the coldest, roughest water or climb down a 150 meter cliff. Futaleufu provided plenty of excitement - we ran the wildest sections of the river with a few exceptions of class VI rapids. The trip videographer (Rayno) created a spectacular video of our adventures. It looks like a professional advertisement - it took us a few views to realize that it was really us jumping off the cliffs, paddling through white water, zip lining into the river, etc. Although it rained the whole week we managed to participate in most of the planned activities - we did become fairly cold but that quickly dissipated when we jumped into the hot tub and were provided drinks and delicious homemade snacks. Be prepared to be wet, bring extra fleece top and bottoms beyond what is suggested in the packing list. Also river shoes definitely help - we wish we had the proper 5.10s instead of our Keen sandals. We tried to fish but the water was too high and there wasn't that much free time in the end. If I was to do this again, I would staying for a bit longer and focus on horseback riding and fishing. Overall, a spectacular trip and we would love to go again. The Earth River facilities (tree houses, cave dwellings, pro boats), guides and local fresh food did make a huge difference.
My two friends and I are still amazed at the fun time we had rafting with Futaleufu Explore last March. It was by far the best week out of our two month tour of Patagonia, surpassing all our expectations. Everything was well organized, from helping us to arrange flights and bus tickets, which made our travels before and after much easier. The 6 days were well planned to make the most of the time, and there were extra activities offered, kayaking lessons on the beach and fishing too. Their comfortable lodge was the perfect place to relax, with the hospitality of the owners made it feel as if wewerestaying in their home. A wide variety of delicious food was enjoyed by all. I am planning on returning soon with several more friends, it is an experience I am looking forward to repeat.
It took 5 years to get there and minutes to realize we had made the right choice. A gorgeous blue green class 5 whitewater river in the Futaleufu valley in Patagonia. Bio Bio Expeditions provided first class everything from the guides they used to the top notch food. We slept in beds, soaked in the hot tub and had a massage therapist on call. Every detail was thought out and the 20 years it took to build this paradise was worth it all for us guests. They run it like a family and now that we have been part of the experience we are also part of the family.
I went rafting in Futaleufu with my girlfriend and my uncle, and it was absolutely amazing! We booked our trip with a company called Patagonia Elements, who is located in Futaleufu. You could tell they had a lot of experience doing this, and all the equipment you needed was included in the price. Our "captain" of the raft was a really nice guy who spoke english, and explained everything we needed to know before we began rafting down the river. The rafting itself was amazing! None of us had ever tried rafting before, but we still managed to get down the river safely, and we had a great time! I would recommend this to everyone, even if you have never tried rafting before! They also have two cameras mounted on the raft, so after the trip you can purchase a DVD with yourself rafting down the river. We payed around 80 usd per person, and the DVD was under 10 usd. This also included transportation and lunch. It was worth every penny!!
Just spent time with Futaleufu Explore folks, the employees are great, but the owners/management are a mess. If you can find another raft company, do. I have never seen such disorganization and poor management in a guiding company.
The Futaleufu river trip is fabulous; every minute is jammed with adventure sports. The rafting is only one part of this trip, though it was my favorite part, it's a multi-challenge trip. I would reccommend it to anyone with decent amount of stamina. The river guides who sometimes double as cooks are great! Their English is virtually perfect, they were always thinking about safety so I didnt have to, theyre always smiling interested in talking, never stand off-ish and above all, expert at their jobs. The camps you stay in are beautiful and worth the trekking around; if my 63 year old co-participant could do it, cant be impossible, right?! The only thing that somewhat dectracted from my early December trip was the quite chilly weather of early summer Patagonia; if I had packed more wool socks and sweaters Id have been fine. I heartily reccomend it and working with the coordinators Eric and Rob was a pleasure!
