ottawa house by-the-sea museum

This is an interesting historical house, a little outside of town. We were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this place on our way to FORCE. It is obviously a work in progress and I wish them well in their mission. It would certainly be nice if someone with museum experience could offer some assistance with displays as there is so much stuff in here, I fear we missed things. Nice that you can get an ice cream and sit on the front porch. Lovely ocean view. On your honour to pay at the front door.

Lots of great history here with many great displays. Lots of genealogy resources for the area families. The young man that was guiding the tours was exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of the house. If you enjoy the past then this is a great spot for you!!

The folks working at Ottawa house seem to be doing a great job. It's a little less than perfectly clean and organized, but that really has to be a low priority with all the work going on. They are probably a little understaffed, but all things considered I would certainly not be ashamed to recommend a visit to anyone. Take the time to ask questions and spend some time wandering, eating ice cream on the verandah and generally getting a feel for the place and you sure won't be disappointed. They ask for a payment of $2, but it's worth more.

My nephew spent some time here doing genealogical research. The archivist was very helpful. We waited for him on the porch eating ice creams. It was relaxing to look out to sea and we didn't mind the wait at all.

So impressed with the local people who are working very hard to preserve this historic site. They are all very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the region.

Sorely in need of restoration work and cleaning. Some work is underway but there is much more that needs to be done. Some good artifacts but the displays are not well done.
